“Oprah Winfrey 2020” is the resounding war-cry following last night’s Golden Globe Awards in California. Because ‘time is up’.
‘Time is up’ for men in power who abuse women was the message punctuated by 63-year-old Winfrey, in the wake of the stream of sexual assault allegations levelled against Hollywood heavyweights.
‘Time is up’ for inequality regarding gender, race, religion, Winfrey told the audience, upon becoming the first black woman to win the Cecil B Demille Award for “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment”.

“I want tonight to express gratitude to all the women who have endured years of abuse and assault because they, like my mother, had children to feed and bills to pay and dreams to pursue,” she said.
‘Time is up’ for a system – across all industries – that has for too long protected white men, and degraded women and women of colour, the media mogul bellowed.
The room was on its feet before she was halfway through, and the reactions from celebrities to her speech have been near-unprecedented in their unified message of gratitude.
“I will now officially divide time like this: ‘Everything that happened before Oprah speech: Everything that will happen after’,” said actress Reese Witherspoon.
