It's the most popular hairstyle beloved by celebs and influencers but one hairdresser is 'sick' of it.

Name a celebrity or influencer and chances are they’ve worn or are currently wearing the same hairstyle.

In fact, you probably asked for it at your last hairdresser’s appointment.

But after its hair monopoly over the last few years, one hairdresser has admitted he’s sick of the ombre beach waves everyone all over the world is loving.

“I’m getting a little bit sick of the wavy beach hair…I’ve always loved that beachy look but I’m sick of seeing it and I’m sick of doing it in the salon,” Priceline Hair Director Kenneth Stoddart told Mamamia backstage at VAMFF last week.

“It’s been around a long time now and that whole ombre, balayage thing… in top salons they’re taking it to the next level and bringing in baby lights and foils, keeping it light on the end but bringing in finer light parts closer to the part line. So it is developing in the industry and that will filter down.”

He said as a result of social media, it was a look everyone around the world was requesting.

“Every client wants the same look, doesn’t matter where you are in the world. Beachy wave with dark roots and light ends. C’mon… there’s something new happening!”

Obviously there’s a reason for this – it’s that perfectly effortless, undone look that is often low-maintenance, AKA hair heaven.

But if you don’t want to look like everybody else, Stoddart has some suggestions of what he’d like to see more of.

“I’d like to see more natural hair again. If you are going to use a tong, I want to see irregularity, more imperfection,” he said.

“Because natural hair has imperfections, everyone is unique and everyone is trying to look the same, like Kim Kardashian. On the runways, we’re seeing a lot more girls looking like themselves. That’s the message.”

A bold choice spotted around the VAMFF runways was slicked back hair.

“There’s a few women walking around with their hair pushed back, as if they’ve put a bit of wax in their hands and pushed it through back off their face,” he said.

“So it’s not entirely wet but instead of hair coming down and on the face and in beachy waves, I’m starting to see a lot more women wearing their hair pushed away from their face as if they’ve come out of the shower and put gel through the hair.”

According to Stoddart, this opens up the face so you can do a strong lip or feature eye. It’s striking and much more confident looking. The power hairstyle, if you will.

Went backstage at @vamff thanks to @pricelineau on Friday night and snapped this lovely lady before the Graduate Showcase. Hair by @kennethstoddarthair was inspired by transforming the typical ponytail into something fresh and modern. Behold the artfully messy chignon, a hairstyle I’m convinced even I could have a go at recreating at home. Hairbrush, frizz serum and about 79 hair ties, come at me ????????

“It’s funny, when a woman wears her hair up in a ponytail off her face, she’s quite okay with that but when you tell her to push it back with wax or gel, it’s a bigger deal,” he pointed out.

“But why is it any different? It’s just getting you head around a new concept… but it looks really good and fresh.”
