Michelle Pfeiffer's new Christmas movie is an ode to underappreciated mothers during the holidays.

If you're a mum who's ever wanted to pack a bag and leave the Christmas chaos behind, this is the movie for you.

It's like Bad Moms meets The Family Stone, blending those two aesthetics — the high-octane comedy of maternal rebellion and the grounded, messy family drama of holiday gatherings — is what makes it so much fun.

Michelle Pfeiffer is back on the big screen, serving up one of her most relatable roles as Claire Clauster in Prime's new Christmas movie, Oh. What. Fun.

Claire Clauster is, for lack of a better word, the glue — the singular force who conjures the magic of the holiday season with perfectly frosted cookies and meticulously wrapped gifts. No one decks the halls quite like her. But this year, her grown kids and distracted husband commit the cardinal sin: they leave their mum behind when they make their way to a concert.

By the time they realise she's missing, Claire's already set off on a festive adventure of her own — one that mercifully doesn't involve cooking or coordinating chaos. As her family scrambles to find her and salvage Christmas, Claire rediscovers the holiday magic when she's finally free to put herself first.

And honestly? Good for her. It's a moment of necessary rebellion.

First of all, I'm obsessed with Pfeiffer — she's just so good in this. It's that perfect mix of warmth, wit, and a simmering 'I've had it up to here' energy that every woman who has organised a major holiday knows intimately.

But the performances are good across the board. Like, really good.

In addition to our Queen Michelle Pfeiffer, Oh. What. Fun. also stars a proper, stacked cast that really sells the chaotic family dynamic: Felicity Jones, Chloë Grace Moretz, Denis Leary, Dominic Sessa, Danielle Brooks, Devery Jacobs, Havana Rose Liu, Maude Apatow, Jason Schwartzman, Eva Longoria, and Joan Chen.

My only note on the chemistry? While the cast gels well together, and you absolutely feel that family history and tension, there were moments that fell flat. Some of the sibling's in-fighting seemed a tad overly comical and didn't feel as grounded as the rest of the film.

While the pacing during the parts of the film where the family members are separated was a little slow — it takes a moment to ramp up the urgency of their quest — overall, it's such an enjoyable watch for Christmas.

It delivers all the necessary seasonal atmospherics: the unavoidable family chaos and fighting, the over-the-top decorations, and that pervasive, deep sense of cosiness.

But the thing that really elevates this festive film is that it's surprisingly emotional at times. The movie doesn't shy away from complex, generational dynamics. They really delve into the complicated relationship between Claire and her eldest daughter, Channing, and how tumultuous that specific mother-daughter bond can be.

The film acknowledges the inevitable tension and struggle for both space and understanding that often characterises that relationship. I'm sure many eldest daughters (and their mums!) can totally attest to that particular struggle.

Ultimately, the main, beating heart of this movie is its exploration of motherhood and how much goes underappreciated, particularly during the holiday season. It is a massive, warm embrace for the mothers who are expected to be the unilateral custodians of joy.

They handle the entire gift economy — buying presents for everyone, and often having to subtly drop hints for themselves. Sometimes even purchasing their own gifts for themselves. They execute the logistics — cooking, cleaning, and hosting everything seamlessly. They uphold the spirit — preparing all the snacks, managing the rituals, and keeping Christmas traditions alive for everyone else.

It's an absolute must-watch for anyone who needs to feel seen (and maybe take a hint from Claire and book a solo trip somewhere warm).
