'I’m a lifestyle editor in my 30s. Here’s every outfit I wore to the office this week.'

What I Wore to Work This Week is a new series providing fit check inspiration to help you get dressed for the office. From creative industries to corporate workplaces, real women share the outfit formulas they lean on to feel stylish, confident and comfortable (and where to shop the looks!).

****

Hi there! I'm Amy, a 33-year-old writer and Mamamia's Lifestyle Editor!

A bit about my style:

I've been a size 8 and a size 24, but my work outfit formula hasn't changed in years:

Midi skirt (usually silky and bias cut, often animal print or a strong colour) + a top or shirt with long sleeves = comfortable and confident.

You'll never catch me wearing jeans, and the closest thing to a professional pant in my wardrobe is a pair of dressy trackpants. And as much as I love a sleeveless vest look, I personally don't feel comfy unless my upper arms are covered.

Don't blame me, blame noughties diet culture.

My office dress code:

Like a lot of creative or more modern workplaces, the Mamamia office dress code is whatever you feel most comfortable in.

That could be heeled boots and a dress on a Monday, or leggings, Adidas sneakers and a trench coat on a Friday.

What you wear is usually dictated by what you're doing and who you're meeting with on any given day. Like non-creative workplaces, there's an expectation to look smart when meeting with external agencies or clients, or attending an event on behalf of the business.

My work fit considerations:

I live in Melbourne, where you're freezing your tits off outside one second and sweating profusely in office heating the next. Layers are essential!

After driving to work for many years, I am back to catching the train — I haven't had to think about comfortable commute-friendly shoes in a while

Most of my day is spent in front of a computer, so comfort is number one

Even though I only need to dress up for clients or external meetings occasionally, I feel my best when I put in a touch of effort

The office outfits I wore to work this week.

1. Comfortable 'boss' vibe for a productive Monday.

Outfit breakdown:

NAKEDVICE The Stacey Print Boot ($289.95)

• An old choc-burgundy Glassons slip skirt (sold out), similar to the Atmos&Here Curvy Nya Slip Maxi Skirt ($59.99) and NA-KD Satin Maxi Skirt ($85.95)

Lioness Bloom Long Sleeve Top ($69) — yes, that is THE viral stripe top me and every other millennial owns

• An old ZARA cropped charcoal faux-leather bomber jacket (sold out) that looks exactly like this Lily & Rose Zinnia Cropped Faux Leather Bomber Jacket ($149.95)

PETA AND JAIN Stormi Bag ($99.95), it's just big enough to fit a work laptop in FYI

I basically threw every 'trend' into the one outfit. Image: Supplied.

Best thing about this fit:

The boots. Hands down, these knee-length snakeskin boots are the best thing I've bought this year.

They are ridiculously comfortable, but still dressed up enough thanks to the kitten heel. Thick-calf-havers will know the struggle of finding knee-length boots that fit. These hit me just below the knee and are a touch tight, but I pull them down slightly for more of a slouchy look.

I style them to add interest to a tonal outfit, or employ the 'wrong shoe' theory by pairing them with clashing prints, bold colours and even other animal print species.

2. A 'sunny one second, freezing the next' kind of Tuesday.

Tonal dressing doesn't have to be all one note. Image: Supplied.

The Fated dress from three years ago inspired by the exxy Realisation Par Gia dress; DISSH's Melrose Black Spot Long Sleeve Maxi Dress ($249.95) and Bronze Snake Amaya Midi Dress ($89) are current alternatives on my wishlist

Tony Bianco Bobbi Chic Crinkle ($179.95)

Lovisa Gold Pebble Cord Medium Pendant Necklace ($22.99)

Forever New Heidi Double Breasted Wrap Coat ($129.95)

NAKEDVICE The Lani Print Bag ($229.95) — this is indeed the same snake print as the boots (I may have bought the matching snakeskin laptop sleeve as well….)

I thought these square-toe ballet flats would be blister city, but they're so comfy! Image: Supplied.

Best thing about this fit:

The dress, which I've had in my wardrobe for the last three years.

It's the perfect transseasonal dress that works no matter the weather. The lightweight, semi-sheer fabric is breathable enough for summer — a great option if you don't feel comfortable wearing strapless dresses or singlets with thin strap — but the midi length and long sleeves add coverage for when it gets chilly.

This dress came with me on my Italian summer honeymoon earlier this year and was one of my most worn pieces.

I get compliments whenever I wear this dress; dress it up with heels for a wedding or evening event, and down with sneakers, slides or boots.

Actually, the Tony Bianco flats are winners, too.

I've avoided the ballet flat resurgence due to my crippling fear of blisters. Thankfully, these square-toed ballet flats have a strap and are ultra comfy, while also being a bit dressed up.

3. A work-appropriate sporty Wednesday look.

Just as comfortable as athleisure, but smart enough if I ran into someone important. Image: Supplied.

Adidas Gazelle Bold sneakers ($190)

• A Kmart satin maxi skirt (sold out), very similar to &me Women's Midi Bias Skirt ($20) or ASOS New Look Satin Bias Midi Skirt ($53)

Lioness Leisure Long Sleeve Polo ($69)

• My favourite Cotton On Body teddy jacket (sold out), but this Cotton On Quilted Tie Up Jacket ($89.99) is a close match

• The same PETA AND JAIN Stormi Bag ($99.95) — I currently rotate between this and the snakeskin work bag depending on the outfit

Best thing about this fit:

The stripey rugby top. I am so on board with the elevated sports trend aesthetic, because it combines comfort with a bit of class.

I love being able to style a traditionally 'weekend' wardrobe item for work — it's all about the cost per wear, baby!

You'll find me in a version of this outfit most weeks. If I'm feeling spicy, I sometimes swap my sneakers out for the aforementioned ballet flats or knee-length boots.

4. My confidence-boosting outfit formula for a Thursday.

I've worn this skirt so many times, the cost-per-wear is basically free. Image: Supplied.

• An old pair of ZARA sock kitten heel leopard boots I have worn 12,456 times, these Topshop Leopard boots from ASOS ($88) are a good alternative

DISSH Renata Skirt (sold out), PSA for shorties, DISSH skirts drag along the ground but I lean into the look; the closest similar zebra maxi skirt I've found is this $100 one from Perfect Stranger

• This cropped Target cardigan is an affordable dupe for the stunning yet out of my budget $249 Henne Solene Cardigan; it predictably sold out, but I found this similar Petal & Pup Tavan Crop Button Front Cardigan ($39.95)

Kmart Hobo Bag ($18)

The more animal prints I wear, the happier I feel. Image: Supplied.

Best thing about this fit:

Again, multiple species of animal print — it's what I reach for when I want to feel the most like myself. I always treat animal print like a neutral; three 'species' worn in one outfit is where I'd draw the line, though.

I've worn this zebra print skirt in so many ways since I bought it over a year ago, but my favourite way is to pair it with these leopard print sock boots.

It came with me to Europe and goes perfectly with slides and thongs; I also styled it with a blue oxford shirt and the same boots when I wanted to feel professional but still confident on my first day at the Mamamia office.

Finally, an honourable mention to the $18 chocolate brown suede-look handbag. Affordable accessories like this one are the best way to 'try on' a trend I'm not sure will suit my style.
