Leighton Meester is joining the cast of Nobody Wants This. But you may not like her character.

This article contains spoilers for Nobody Wants This.

Late last year, we were all bewitched by Adam Brody and Kristen Bell's rom-com Nobody Wants This. following its release, the Netflix series catapulted to number one on the streaming service's Top 10, and in our hearts.

I know that I, for one, binge-watched the entire thing, giggling and kicking my feet the entire time. Adam Brody's Noah and Kristen Bell's Joanne had such incredible chemistry that 10 episodes flew by, and suddenly it was over.

Five months on, and not only has the hype barely wavered, it's just been made stronger by the news that Brody's IRL wife, actress Leighton Meester, is joining the cast for season two, along with actor Miles Fowler.

But there's a catch. You… may not like her character much.

According to Variety, Meester will guest star as Abby — who is described as "Joanne's middle school nemesis, who is now an Instagram mommy influencer". Fowler, meanwhile, guest stars as Lenny — "Noah's Matzah Ballers teammate who gets set up with Morgan [Justine Lupe]."

Meester's enjoying quite the return to the small screen right now, also starring as police officer Lou in Stan's new show, Good Cop, Bad Cop.

"I was very excited to play a role that A) somebody believes that I'm an adult person and B) who could be a cop," the Gossip Girl alum told Mamamia. "That's very cool."

The news comes a few weeks after Brody took home 'Best Actor in a Comedy Series' at the 2025 Critics Choice Awards. Meester was moved to tears as Brody accepted the award — and, after hearing his speech, I can't say I blame her.

"My darling, darling, darling wife, Leighton, thank you," he said.

"Thank you for sharing this life with me, and this journey with me. Thank you for our family. I love you with all my heart."

Swoon.

Needless to say, the news of Meester's casting has us all craving more rom-com moments of the Nobody Wants This variety asap.

The good news is — we're going to get 'em! But when? And what happens next? Here's everything we know.

Nobody Wants This creator Erin Foster spills on Season 2 spoilers.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, creator Erin Foster shared that Season 2 will begin at the end of the first season, so don't expect any silly time jumps.

"I think we'll pick up mostly more or less where we left off. Not the same night, but the same moment of, 'So, what now? How do we do this?'," she shared.

She also said it would be another 10-episode season but there will be one change: Foster wants to steer away from any romance between Sasha and Morgan, as Noah's brother is obviously happily married.

"I think we're going to wrap up their weird 'Is it romantic?' thing," Erin told The Hollywood Reporter.

"Because we want to see them together in Season 2, hanging out. We want to see [Sasha's wife] Esther. I think we went down that road enough that now we're going to pull back and reposition so we can have them all in scenes together without [Morgan] being like, a full homewrecker."

The creator also teased that the creative team have aspirations to make multiple seasons of this beloved show. Yes please!

"I'd like to be employed as long as possible, I guess. There are a lot of stories to tell," she said.

"It's funny because, we've been in the writers' room and so we're working on storylines, and we keep coming up with storylines and being like, 'That's for season three. That's for season three.' And we're like, 'Should we just make a board and pitch out season three to them at the same time?' Because, we have ideas."

Everything we know about Nobody Wants This Season 2.

In October 2024, Netflix confirmed the rom-com will be back for more.

"Creating Nobody Wants This will forever be a career highlight for me," Foster told Netflix. "The incredible cast, crew, producers, and executives all made this into the show it is today, and to experience viewers' reactions to this series now that it's out in the world has been more than anything I could have dreamed."

"I'm so lucky to be able to continue this story," said Foster. "And to do it alongside Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, who I've been such a fan of since Girls.… Justice for healthy relationships being the most romantic!"

Foster had previously hinted at a second season following the show's blockbuster release, admitting the whole team had their finger's crossed for renewal.

"I would love to do a Season 2; Kristen and Adam would love to do a Season 2," she said in a new interview with The Wrap. "There's so much more story to tell so if people like the show, then I would be really excited to keep telling it."

With keen leading stars, creators, and fans (and one million views in its first week) it's no wonder the show has been renenwed. But what happens next? The good news is that Adam Brody and Kristen Bell are already spilling the beans.

Nobody Wants This Season 1 ending, explained by Adam Brody.

I don't know about you, but I was certainly shedding a tear when Joanne made the call to end her relationship with Noah.

"How? Noah, tell me how this works if I don't convert," Joanne asked him in their gut-wrenching break-up scene, admitting she wasn't ready to convert to Judaism in order for them to stay together.

"I see what's at stake now. You need me to be something that I can't promise that I can be. And if I falter, even a little bit, your whole life blows up? That's not fair to you," she continued. "You can't have both, and I would never make you choose."

She left him behind, saying "don't come after me."

But then, as all good rom-com leads do, he followed her! And won her back!

"So, how does this work?" she asked him again.

"You were right, I can't have both," he replied, before kissing her in one final scene.

What does it mean? Fans had assumed it meant Noah was choosing Joanne over his promotion, since he routinely declared he couldn't have both.

But Brody told Tudum that he saw the moment as Noah telling Joanne, "I put you first. Everything else will work itself out, but I'm saying that you are my priority."

"In the light of day, will he still feel that way? I don't know," Brody added. "It's an open question."

While I am not thrilled at the idea of Noah's sweeping declaration being taken back once he considers his 'real' world a little more, you'd have to be pretty naive to think the drama of their different lives was done and dusted with one random sweet scene.

"I think that's what the show can explore," Brody says. "What should he do? What should she do? What version of sacrifice is worth it? What constitutes growth, or what constitutes dimming yourself to be with someone else? It's a sacrifice, but ideally, you grow together and you're better for it — you don't have to [lop] off a limb."

When will Nobody Wants This Season 2 be released?

The good news for fans is that we're not expected to wait multiple years (as is the way with many shows nowadays). Instead, we'll be getting Season 2 of Nobody Wants This in 2025, aka this year! Eek!

"It's basically going to be coming back, probably, in September again next year," Foster previously confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Once a year, the same time, we'll be really consistent."
