Ah, the sanctity of marriage. It turns out that’s only an issue for the ‘No’ campaigners when they’re not the ones, erm, ruining the goddamn wedding. On Saturday about 500 ‘No’ campaigners gathered outside of St Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney to protest against marriage equality, and in doing so, actually ruined the wedding of two straight people (you know, the very people they claim they’re trying to protect). Yep, Alanis Morissette would call this ironic… like a black fly in your chardonnay… or a free ride when you’ve already paid. Th couple weren’t too impressed about exchanging their vows with 500 people chanting, “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, No, No, No” in the background. The bride herself actually walked out of her wedding and told them to go away. “I prefer they just moved, to be honest,” she told the ABC. Meanwhile, thousands of people across Australia, including 1500 in Sydney, marched through the streets in support of marriage equality. Here’s some of the best photos from the day:
Um, so 'No' campaigners just ruined a straight wedding. And we can't deal with the irony.
