Nicole Kidman's iconic divorce photo is a lie.

In news that will yuck a lot of people's collective yums, Nicole Kidman is setting the story straight about one of her most iconic memes.

And guess what? It was all a big fat lie; it was a mere figment of the internet's cursed imagination.

The meme in question? Yes, there are a lot of memes about the Australian actress and wife of Keith Urban, but this one surrounds her divorce from Tom Cruise.

ICYMI: Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise got divorced in 2001 after 11 years of marriage. And a certain set of photos have become synonymous with their split, said to have been taken after the divorce was finalised.

Anyone who is chronically online knows the exact image I'm talking about. This one!

It's a fun story, right? In these images, Kidman has encapsulated a feeling we can all relate to: blissful freedom. Whether you've gotten out of a toxic marriage, a bad job, or even just gotten through a mental health crisis, it's an emotion that the actress managed to perfectly harness with these images.

But sadly, these pictures had nothing to do with her divorce.

"That was not me," she told GQ UK. "That was from a film, that wasn't real life. I know that image!"

She didn't name the movie and I did my due diligence but I could not find what movie this could possibly be where she had her natural red hair.

When the journalist told her the lore behind the photos, aka they were taken when she finalised her divorce, Nicole laughed and replied "That's not true."

Kidman is well-versed in the memes she appears in. "I've also seen the one where I'm clapping like that," she said, referring to the time she clapped like a seal at the 2017 Oscars.

"I had a massive heavy borrowed ring on and it was really painful, and I was scared of wrecking the jewellery. Ha! There's always something behind the actual images that go out there, right?"

But she's taken it all in her stride, especially her becoming something of a cult figure online due to an ad in the US for cinema chain AMC. "I'll do anything for cinema," she said.

"You can meme me as much as you want."

We will, Nicole. We will.
