What is the plot of Netflix's Pulse?

Pulse centres on Dr. Danielle "Danny" Simms, a third-year resident who finds herself unexpectedly promoted when the hospital's respected chief resident, Dr. Xander Phillips, is suspended. Talk about a complicated workplace situation.

Things get even spicier when it's revealed that Danny and Phillips have been involved in a "complicated and illicit romance" that's about to become very public knowledge. Scandalous.

As if navigating their messy personal relationship wasn't enough drama, a hurricane is barrelling toward Miami, forcing the hospital into lockdown and creating an onslaught of trauma cases. The series follows this tight-knit group of doctors as they try to save lives while their own personal lives unravel around them.

According to series co-creator Zoe Robyn, the show aims to depict "real, authentic" workplace romance that play "in the grey area," showing both "the edges and pitfalls of their relationship" and "the joyous moments of working a high-pressure job."

It's everything we love in a steamy medical drama.

Who is in the cast of Netflix's Pulse?

The ensemble cast is led by Willa Fitzgerald as our complicated heroine Dr. Danny Simms, who the show's co-creator Carlton Cuse describes as "even more complicated" than she initially appears. Colin Woodell plays Dr. Xander Phillips, who comes from a "patrician medical family" and is trying to figure out how to make his own mark with his work.
