'This Netflix movie has broken records. I've already seen it twice.'

K-pop Demon Hunters. Three words that have no business being in a sentence together. But strangely… it works perfectly.

Netflix's K-Pop Demon Hunters takes what could have been a completely bonkers premise and somehow pulls it off brilliantly. The movie follows Huntr/x — a K-pop girl group, who are secretly demon hunters, battling against a rival demon boy band called Saja Boys.

Their mission is to protect humanity by maintaining the Honmoon, a magical barrier separating the human and demon realms. Yes, it sounds absolutely mental when you say it out loud, but trust me, it works spectacularly.

And it seems the world agrees. From fan edits on TikTok to forums discussing potential theories, K-pop Demon Hunters has quickly become one of Netflix's most popular titles ever.

The movie is now in fourth place on the all-time English-language films chart and is the most-watched original animated feature in the streamer's history. The numbers don't lie. Not to mention, it's already reportedly been renewed for a second and third film… so, if there's a time to hop on the bandwagon, it's now.

What makes this movie, and the overall concept, so genius is how it seamlessly weaves together K-pop fandom culture with traditional Korean demon lore. It's such a creative approach that feels both fresh and deeply rooted in cultural authenticity. The film doesn't just use these elements as window dressing — it genuinely explores what it means to be a fan, the power of music, and the strength found in friendship. Plus, watching teenage girls demolish ancient evil whilst performing bangers? Chef's kiss.

The animation style is absolutely gorgeous, and I mean drop-dead stunning. Every single character is beautifully and uniquely designed, from our ethereal protagonists to the sometimes scary — and at times, very, very attractive — demons. The colour palette is vibrant and dynamic, perfectly capturing both the glossy world of K-pop and the darker supernatural elements.

And the songs are absolute bangers! Bangers, I tell you!

I've been listening to the soundtrack on repeat since I watched the movie — twice now, as mentioned — and I'm not even slightly embarrassed about it. Each track perfectly captures different moods and moments in the film, from soaring anthems about friendship and courage to more intimate ballads about self-discovery. The music doesn't feel like an afterthought, it's integral to both the plot and the emotional journey of the characters. Fair warning: you will be humming these tunes for weeks. No wonder it's the highest-charting soundtrack of 2025, as per Billboard.

But what really makes this film special is how perfectly it captures female friendship in all its chaotic glory. The girls are SO relatable but also so iconic. The silliness, the unhinged chaos — it's so girlhood coded and I absolutely love it. This is exactly how close friends should interact: messy, supportive, ridiculous, and fiercely loyal all at once. Watching them navigate both supernatural threats and the very real drama of group dynamics feels authentic in the best way possible.

The characters are wonderfully multi-faceted too. They're not just archetypes or one-note personalities designed to tick boxes. Each girl has her own struggles, dreams, and growth arc, and the film takes time to develop all of them properly. Their banter feels natural and lived-in, their conflicts feel real, and their bond feels unbreakable.

You'll find yourself genuinely invested in their individual journeys whilst also rooting for them as a collective force of nature. Even certain antagonists receive complex character development — like Jinu, one of the Saja Boys — whose motivations and internal struggles add such an emotional weight to the story.

If you're a K-pop fan, this movie is extra delightful because the tropes and references throughout really speak to fandom culture and K-drama-esque moments. From lightsticks at concerts to a slow-motion meet-cute scene, everything feels lovingly crafted by people who genuinely understand and appreciate these cultural touchstones. The film gets the obsession, the dedication, and yes, even the slightly unhinged behaviour that comes with being a devoted stan.

But even if you're not deeply embedded in K-pop culture, the film does such a great job of capturing the frantic, all-consuming energy of being in a fandom. Whether you were a One Direction girlie or a fiend for The Beatles, the movie pays homage to the beauty of being part of a collective. I mean, the moment the Saja Boys came onto the screen, I was immediately transported back to my 14-year-old fandom days. What a time.

K-Pop Demon Hunters is a rare gem that manages to be both utterly ridiculous and genuinely heartfelt. Is it perfect? No, but honestly, who cares? It's so much fun and so full of heart that its minor flaws — like little plot holes here and there — fade into the background. This is the kind of film that reminds you why you fell in love with movies in the first place; pure, joyful entertainment that doesn't talk down to its audience or apologise for being exactly what it is.

At its heart, the film celebrates something society has long demonised — particularly when it comes to girlhood — the joy of being a devoted fan, of loving something wholeheartedly, and finding your tribe through shared passion.

Go watch it. Then watch it again. Trust me on this one, your inner fangirl will thank you.
