"How my change to 'green beauty' helped clear up my acne."

Like many, my journey to a more natural beauty routine began with troubled skin. I had hormonal acne in high school and that soon became adult acne. Nothing I did really worked and it wasn’t until I took a hard look at both my beauty habits and diet that I was able to pinpoint any particular reasons to why my skin was so inflamed all the time.

After switching to a more wholesome diet of plants, lean proteins and select grains, I was able to clear up my skin a bit, but I couldn’t shake the persistent breakouts on my chin, cheeks and even forehead. They hurt horribly, took forever to heal, and left ugly scars behind.

When I finally dove into researching more natural skincare and makeup products and that was when the true changes began to happen. My skin became softer, smoother, and completely calm. Acne breakouts are now a totally rare occurrence and scarring is diminishing day by day. At 26, lines are barely visible.

Since I’ve been lucky enough to try and review many natural beauty products over the years, I thought it would be fun to share what’s worked for my skin.

Of course, check with your dermatologist or doctor if you’re unsure about using any of these methods and/or products as I’m not a doctor. I don’t know your skin like you and your doctor will, but this is what’s worked well for me (Post continues after gallery).

Top 3 Natural Beauty Tricks for Healing Acne

Double Oil Cleansing.

Oil cleansing is one of, if not, the most underrated cleansing methods out there. It’s wonderful because the oils cleanse your skin without stripping it of it’s natural oils, oils your skin needs to protect itself from outside aggressors. On top of that, massaging oils into your skin, especially organic plant oils, helps clear dirt, debris, makeup, and sunscreen off your face, thereby preventing breakouts and healing existing ones.

Double cleansing (AKA cleansing two times) with plant oils helps get rid of your makeup and any dirt and debris that’s gotten onto your skin. You can use any organic plant oil, but my favorites are rose hip and marula oil. If you prefer to purchase cleansing oils, my favorite store bought cleansing oils are the OLO Vitamin B Cleansing Oil and Antonia Burrell Natural Glow Cleansing Oil.

Organic Face Oils.

In the same way you would cleanse with plant oils, so too, you should press a few drops into your skin at night before bed. This helps lock in moisture to your skin, speeds up healing, and many plant oils have naturally occurring vitamins and nutrients which are valuable to keeping your skin looking bright, youthful, and healthy.

You can use any organic plant oil, but again, my favourites are rose hip and marula oils. They just seem to work really well for my skin. If you prefer to purchase face oils, my favorites are Pure Marula Oil, Trilogy Rosehip Oil, and Vintner’s Daughter Active Botanical Serum.

Clay Based Face Masks.

Clay-based masks do wonderful things for acne prone skin because they are able to pull out the toxins from your pores and gently exfoliate your skin. You can use any clay based mask that you have on hand, but I personally use May Lindstrom’s Problem Solver Face Mask. It’s an incredible face mask that genuinely works to brighten skin, heal acne, and even diminish scarring.
