Natalie Joyce just eviscerated her ex-husband's televised interview with absolute class.

Barnaby Joyce’s ex-wife Natalie has spoken for the first time about her ex-husband’s paid interview with Sunday Night earlier this month.

In an interview with the Australian Women’s Weekly – which the magazine notes was “unpaid and candid” – Natalie Joyce said she was not surprised the former deputy prime minister and his new partner, Vikki Campion, sold their story.

“I wasn’t surprised she sold their ‘exclusive’ story, and certainly not surprised the $150,000 went to her child, but it begs the question, if Barney agreed to be a part of it, how could he allow his four girls to be overlooked?

“In saying that, I wouldn’t want a cent of that money. It was all we could do to watch it without throwing a brick at the TV!”

The interview, conducted “with friend and journalist” Lizzie Wilson, was a part of the magazine’s ‘rural’ issue. In the piece, Wilson writes for Ms Joyce, the interview was “not about money”, but instead “simply being heard”.

“I’m normally a very private person but I knew I had to find my voice. They thought I would lie down, but this time I couldn’t,” she told the magazine.

“I’m doing this so the girls feel empowered, and know their mum stood up and defended our fine name.”

Speaking to Channel 7’s Sunday Night earlier this month, Mr Joyce’s former media advisor Vikki Campion said she felt pressured to abort the pregnancy by “conservatives” within the National Party.

“They came to me and they said ‘You’re pregnant and you have to get an abortion’. And they said, ‘If you don’t, they’re gonna come after you’,” she said.

“And I said, ‘it’s too late, it has a heartbeat.’ And they said, ‘If you don’t, they’re gonna come after you.’’’

“And they did,” Mr Joyce said.

Ms Campion apologised, in the interview, to “every innocent party that was dragged through this”.

“I’m really sorry,” she said.

“But, you know, you can’t really… you can’t help who you fall in love with.”
