Why Naomi Watts says you should apply blush "under your eyes".

Like death and taxes, ageing is an inevitable fact of life. But that doesn’t stop any of us from attempting to disguise its effects with skincare, cosmetics and treatments.

This is particularly true in youth-obsessed Hollywood, where Botox injections and other cosmetic procedures are par for the course. Naomi Watts is yet to go to these lengths, but she understands why many of her peers have taken the plunge and doesn’t judge them for doing so.

“Personally, I feel for me it’s tough to do Botox — but it’s also tough not to! Sometimes, I think I need the help,” the 47-year-old actress tells NewBeauty.

“Of course, I want to look the best I can, but I am playing characters that should match my age and the women and the material that I am interested in are usually going through something. I have to be able to live in my face and tell the story of the character I’ve taken on. But… I’ll never say never.”

Though Watts is still on the fence about Botox, there are two techniques she swears by for a ‘youthful’-looking appearance.

One is the Triad Facial, which involves microdermabrasion, LED light therapy and a gentle peel, and the other is a simple makeup trick that happens to be far more affordable for the rest of us mere mortals. Listen up.

“I once had a makeup artist tell me to wear blush as high as possible, on my cheekbones,” she tells the magazine, as People reports.

“You almost want to apply it under your eyes. It’s a good trick; it really does make it look better, yet it looks natural.”

Now, if you’re accustomed to swirling your blush over the ‘apples’ of your cheeks — as we’ve long been instructed to do — you probably think this technique sounds odd.

However, Aussie makeup artist to the stars Rae Morris says your blush application should be adjusted as you grow older to complement the structural changes to your face.

“Your cheek is an indicator of your age … our cheeks drop as we get older, so if you put your blush lower than your natural contour line, you just made yourself look older,” Morris explained to The Glow last year.

“Imagine a line from the edge of your lip to the top of your ear; blush goes above it.”

While growing older is something that happens to all of us, regardless of how many smoothing creams or injections launch into the market, Watts admits it can be hard to come to terms with. (Post continues after gallery.)

“Everyone has their good days and bad days… I feel so much better as a person now than I did in my 20s, but most of the time I feel like I’m still a kid,” she explains.

“There are days you feel like you are on top of it and you are OK and at peace with it; then there are the days you still feel 28 inside — until you catch that reflection or see a photograph and realise you aren’t anymore.”

You have to appreciate her honesty.
