We now know the genius reason why Shark Tank's Naomi Simson always wears red to work.

Feeding on million dollar ideas on Channel Ten’s Shark Tank, Naomi Simson cuts an intimidating figure as the ‘Red Shark’ in her signature red dress and lipstick.

But while many assume the entrepreneur’s business Red Balloon was the inspiration behind the Shark’s colour choice, there’s a lot more to Naomi’s signature red look than meets the eye.

Having founded Red Balloon from her couch, Naomi explained how it became all too easy to become a little 'too comfortable'.

"I didn’t pay myself for years, so I was always wearing the same capri pants and top," the 53-year-old shared with Jules Sebastian on Monday's episode of Tea With Jules.

"My good colleague Gemma took me aside one day and said ‘You are a CEO. Could you please dress like one?’."

After being told she "looked lovely in red" at a speaking engagement over a decade ago, Naomi adopted the striking colour as her work uniform, more so to make life easier than anything else.

"Red made it really easy. It became a work uniform," she said.

She also explained that as a speaker in front of audiences, sticking to the same shade of red each time helped sieze attention when speaking in front of audiences - and removed focus from what she was wearing.

"When they see the red, they know it’s me and can settle and listen. Those first few seconds in a speaking engagement are really important to bring the audience into your story. In the bathroom afterwards, I often hear people say 'oh she's the red lady' or 'the red shark'," she said.

"It doesn't matter to me, my message is what's important, I want them to remember than more than my name."

Lastly, aside from making her Monday to Friday business life infinitely easier, Naomi's colour blocking work wardrobe also serves the dual purpose of allowing her to wander the streets incognito on the weekends.

"People don't recognise me when I'm out and about on the weekends in my jeans and a normal top," she shared.

Shark Tank airs on Tuesday nights, 9:30pm on Channel Ten.
