12 Vanity Fair covers even more inspirational than Caitlyn Jenner's.

“As a good friend of mine said Monday, ‘Where’s my Vanity Fair cover?'”

The world is still talking about Caitlyn Jenner‘s Vanity Fair cover.

The simple, stylised  image, along with one line – ‘Call me Caitlyn’ – was an incredibly important moment for the transgender community. It summed up exactly how people who identify as transgender want to be seen – as their honest, true self.

But not everyone transgender person feels the same.

Some without wealth, power and access to famous designers thought it was an insult to the trans community.

A dialogue has started amongst this community that suggests people only care about transgender people if they’re conventionally beautiful, like Caitlyn Jenner obviously is.

One blogger, Crystal Fraiser, decided to help other transgender people have the same experience as Caitlyn Jenner after her friend asked, “Where’s my Vanity Fair cover?”.

She created Vanity Fair cover templates and encouraged others to make their own.

“I’ve felt frustrated and useless and overwhelmed by opinions on transgender women and how we’re “supposed” to look if we want to be taken seriously,” Crystal wrote on her blog, Ramble on Amazon.

“But not all of us adhere to those standards. Not all of us want to. Not all of us can. Some of us do, but only out of fear. Some of us do but we aren’t sure why. And whether we fit those standards or not, we’re beautiful, and we all deserve to feel beautiful, and be acknowledged by the world. Admiration and praise for trans women shouldn’t only come if we fit a narrow definition of beauty.”

Crystal is encouraging others to use the cover and create their own, in order to show the world the “myriad faces of the trans community”.

So far, the response has been overwhelming. #MyVanityFairCover is producing hundreds of images, transgender men and women in the way they want to be seen, superimposing their face and name over the background.

This is not an attack on Caitlyn Jenner or Vanity Fair. This is a way for the transgender community to rally behind Caitlyn Jenner while letting themselves be seen and heard in the way they want.
