“I’m an actress and she’s the real deal.”
They’re the words of Meryl Streep in her tribute to US Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton, at the 2012 Women in the World summit in New York.
She talks about the “hidden history” of Hillary Clinton. About how Hillary has been the voice of her generation; her role as the voice of women around the world; and about the strength of her belief that “women’s rights are human rights.”
It’s powerful.
Clinton later thanked Streep for the introduction and joked she was happy the actress ‘didn’t do a movie called “The Devil Wears Pantsuits”‘.
