But here we are in 2025, and apparently, we're all still playing it pretty safe in the name game.

McCrindle research is in, and has revealed the top baby names in Australia from 2024 and some clear favourites have emerged for the year ahead.
Top boys and girls names in 2024.
Oliver (or should I say, ALL-iver) is still dominating the boys' chart. We're talking 11 years of reign here. For pretty much all of Generation Alpha (that's the kids born between 2010 and 2024), Oliver has been the crown prince of names and it looks like it's here to stay.
Meanwhile, in girl-world, Isla has done the unthinkable and knocked Charlotte off the top spot.
The top boys names climbing the ranks were Hudson, Theodore, and Luca.
For the girls, Lily, Hazel, and Harper have pushed their way in, showing Ella, Grace, and Willow the door.
And as Kath and Kim would say, we like anything that ends in an "ie" with Millie, Billie, and Lottie having their moment in the sun.
Miles is the dark horse of 2025, jumping 53 spots. And Cleo? She's rising through the ranks quickly, up 44 spots from the year before.
If like me, you were born in the '80s or '90s your classrooms were probably full of Lisas, Scotts, Lukes, Jessicas and Claires. But now the data is reflecting an increasing diversity in naming choices across different states and territories.
