If you thought myspace1 was both a highly original and also secure password, you may have a problem.

Not least because you’re living in 2005 and WHY HAVE YOU NOT CHANGED YOUR PASSWORD SINCE THE DAYS OF MYSPACE. But also because according to research from HaveIBeenPwned.com, which has obtained more than half a billion passwords previously exposed in data breaches, myspace1 is the 27th most common password – identified more than 700,000 times.

This research, collated by HaveIBeenPwned.com and decoded by the ABC, demonstrates the passwords we should definitely not be using, given their repeated exposure by hackers. If yours is on the list, you should change it. Immediately.

Other common passwords, identified over 300,000 times, include love, football, football1, daniel, ashley, and computer.

What makes data breaches particularly dangerous is that most of us use the same password across a number of websites and apps. Therefore, security experts, like Troy Hunt – the creator of HaveIBeenPwned.com – suggest using apps like 1Password or LastPass to save multiple unique passwords, accessible by one master password.
