Um. This Friends theory will completely change the way you look at Monica and Chandler.

Woah.

A Reddit user may have just completely destroyed all that we know to be good and pure in the world.

…Otherwise known as the fictional relationship between Monica and Chandler from Friends.

The Redditor posted a fan theory that suggests Chandler was still in love with his ex-girlfriend, Kathy, at the time of his wedding to Monica…which has sufficiently broken our hearts and crushed our souls.

We may never get over this, and we can only assume this Reddit user is some sort of sadist.

According to The Sun, the theory is this:

If you cast your mind back to Friends' fourth season, you'll remember Chandler falling hard for Joey's girlfriend Kathy.

For her birthday, Chandler even tracked down a first edition copy of her favourite children’s book The Velveteen Rabbit, but on realising it was too sentimental a gift, he let Joey give it to her.

Kathy eventually figured out who it was really from - and they ended up kissing behind Joey's back.

After a fallout with Joey which ultimately resulted in him giving his blessing, Kathy and Chandler did end up together, but it didn't last - and we never saw Kathy again.

In the 2001 season, you may remember Monica bought Chandler a pink bunny costume to wear for Halloween, which she said was because his favourite kids’ book was The Velveteen Rabbit.

Interestingly, this fact was never mentioned back when he was buying Kathy’s first edition.

HUH?

The omission is what led the Reddit user to come to the conclusion that “Chandler held a torch for Kathy for all those years and it was so strong he adopted her favourite childhood book as his own”.

It's actually too much for us, so we're going to side with a different Redditor, who pointed out: “It’s just a plot hole and the writers clearly don’t know more than one children’s book.”
