Every single serial killer we know will appear on Mindhunter season 2.

When Mindhunter season one dropped on Netflix in 2017, it quickly became one of the streaming services most-binged shows.

The series follows the story of Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany), two special agents from the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit (BSU) who travel around the United States interviewing the country’s worst serial killers.

The series is based on the book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit by John Douglas and Mark Olshaker.

Ford and Tench are loosely based on two FBI special agents named John Douglas (the co-author of the book) and Robert Ressler who began studying serial killers in the late 1970s.

The David Finch-helmed series takes us into the early days of criminal profiling, to a time before the term ‘serial killer’ was a part of our vernacular and Ted Bundy was a household name.

Ford and Tench are the first FBI agents to ever study serial killers and to look closely at why they do what they do. Throughout the series, they sit across from some of the most dangerous men in history and attempt to make sense of how their minds work.

Serial killers Ed Kemper, Jerry Brudos and Darrell Gene Devier appeared in season one. Here are the serial killers we know will appear in season two:

Charles Manson.

At the end of the trailer for season two, we see Holden and Tench waiting to meet Charles Manson.

Manson, of course, was the infamous leader of the Manson Family cult, who were responsible for a series of murders in Hollywood in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

On August 8, 1969, the group set out on a killing spree across LA. They entered the home of actress Sharon Tate and director Roman Polanski, and killed Tate and her unborn child.

Abigail Folger, Wojciech Frykowski, Steven Parent, Jay Sebring, and Leno and Rosemary LaBianca were also killed during the murderous spree.

Damon Herriman, the Australian actor who played Manson in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, is also playing him in season two of Mindhunter.

Dennis Rader aka the 'BTK killer'.

Dennis Rader is also known as the Bind Torture Kill murderer or the BTK killer.

Rader killed 10 people across a 30 year period from around 1974 to 1991. He was arrested and convicted in 2005.

While Rader featured in season one of the series - he was the mystery character who we saw working for security company ADT, practicing knot-tying and stalking houses - his identity will be revealed in season two.

In the trailer we see a man wearing a mask. Later the same mask is seen buried in the ground in a box. This is a reference to a mask that was found with the body of a woman Rader murdered in 1991.

Rader is serving 10 consecutive life sentences in the El Dorado Correctional Facility in Kansas. He's now 73 years old.

David Berkowitz aka 'Son of Sam'.

David Berkowitz, also known as the 'Son of Sam', killed six people and wounded seven others in New York City between 1976 and 1977.

The serial killer targeted young women who were sitting in cars in the city's five boroughs. The 'Son of Sam' would approach the cars and fire multiple shots into the window.

Berkowitz left a series of taunting letters for police at the scenes of his crimes.

When he was eventually caught and brought in for questioning, he confessed to his crimes and pleaded guilty.

Berkowitz was sentenced to six consecutive life sentences. He's currently being held at the maximum security Sullivan Correctional Facility in New York.

Wayne Williams and the Atlanta child murders.

Season two will also cover Wayne Williams and the Atlanta child murders.

Over a two-year period between 1979 and May 1981, at least 28 children, adolescents and young adults were murdered.

In the 1980s, Williams was arrested and convicted of the murder of two men. He was then blamed for the deaths and disappearances of 22 children.

He has never been charged or convicted for any of the child murders. In his book, Douglas cast doubt on the idea that Williams was responsible for the death of every single victim in the Atlanta child murders.

“I believe the forensic and behavioural evidence points conclusively to Wayne Williams as the killer of eleven young men in Atlanta,” he wrote.

The entire second season of Mindhunter will drop on Netflix on Friday August 16.
