Celeb news: The INXS secret kept for 16 years

This is what happens when the remaining members of a legendary rock band sit down for a tell-all interview. Secrets that have been kept 16 years come out.

INXS frontman Michael Hutchence had plans to leave his girlfriend, Paula Yates, just days before his sudden death in a Sydney hotel room in 1997. INXS Guitarist and saxophonist Kirk Pengilly says Hutchence confessed his desire to end the relationship right before his death, and he’s kept that secret – until now.

“What he told me, he had a plan in place to basically split up with Paula and so … what can I say? That’s what he told me,” Pengilly said in an interview on Sunday Night. “It’s all very personal stuff and it’s a long time ago now, too. I don’t want to dwell on it.”

These revelations come after the mini-series INXS: Never Tear Us Apart aired recently.

The surviving band members of INXS also opened up about the grief and shock they felt when their dear friend Hutchence was found dead. They all agreed that Hutchence seemed fine the last time they saw him, and couldn’t understand why he would take his own life with so much to live for – including a baby girl, Tiger Lily.

“I went into the bathroom and started hyperventilating,” Tim Farriss said.

When Andrew Farriss was asked if he thought the singer had indeed taken his own life, he said he still didn’t really know what to think.

“There is a hint there,” he said. “I find it hard to live with the thought that it happened, so you try to think of other things. But to be honest there really isn’t anything else that makes any sense to me. So you just have to leave it at that.”

While Murphy said his death was “the biggest unanswered question in rock n’ roll to be honest.”
