The internet is very confused about Melania Trump's first official White House portrait.

It’s the White House moment we’ve all been waiting for. Okay, perhaps not, because it seems Donald Trump is still living there…but still, this is exciting.

The White House has released First Lady Melania Trump’s first official portrait. And it’s glam beyond measure.

Of course, because it’s 2017 and nothing can go unnoticed or untouched, the internet has a lot of questions about just what is going on with this picture.

Of course, it’s not just the way the photograph was taken that has people talking.

Melania is featured with her arms crossed in the portrait, an unusual pose for someone in a political position, as The Mirror reports.

Political portrait subjects typically pose with “open handed” or open-armed gestures to “signify openness” and present a welcoming nature.

Others also took issue with the fact the portrait was “taken in her new residence”, the White House… even though, she doesn’t actually live there. Melania and her son Barron have decided not to move into the President’s house and have remained in New York.

Melania’s official portrait is a far cry from the last FLOTUS picture released by the White House, featuring Michelle Obama.

In her last official portrait, taken at the start of her husband's second term as US President, Michelle 'dared to bare' her arms, posing in a room that was clearly within the White House.

Many have also pointed to similarities to Melania's new picture to that of another famous First Lady: Nancy Reagan.

Minus a whole heap of airbrushing, the two images are strikingly similar in composition: both close-up head shots, with the same blurred window in the background.

They're also wearing the same type of small bow around their neck.

They do say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?
