Meghan Markle is about to face a test that Princess Diana faced more than 30 years ago.

Meghan Markle is apparently about to face her next big test as a royal when she visits the Queen’s favourite holiday destination.

The Duchess of Sussex, along with husband Prince Harry, are believed to be planning to visit the royal family’s Scottish summer home, Balmoral, this month, The Express reports.

But as royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams explained to the UK newspaper, this stay won’t be as relaxing as other parts of their delayed honeymoon, with the trip seen as a sort of “initiation” or “test”.

“An invitation to Balmoral, where the Queen is expected to remain until September, is traditionally part of the initiation into the royal family,” he said.

It's an initiation Princess Diana experienced in the early 1980s after she married Prince Charles - and although she got through it, the place apparently came to bore her.

"The Balmoral ‘test’ was initially passed by Diana who was later unhappy and bored there," he said.

Balmoral Castle - which is open to the public during select times when not in use by the royals - is on a 20,000-hectare estate that is also home to deer, cattle and ponies.

It won't be Meghan's first visit there - just her first as a royal. She reportedly was introduced to the Queen there last September.

And if reports that the Queen and the newlywed get along well are to be believed, Meghan will probably have a much better time than her late mother-in-law.

Meghan's not the only guest expected to drop in - Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, as well as Prince Andrew, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are all supposed to visit.
