Lindsay Lohan hints at our dreams of a Mean Girls sequel with the original cast.

Lindsey Lohan has hinted that she is very keen for a Mean Girls sequel.

The actress, 30, posted on Instagram about her desire to star in another movie, uploading a photo to her account with former co-stars Rachel McAdams and Lacey Chabert, throwing way back to the year the film peaked.

Captioning the image, “Miss you all … sequel?”, Lohan has sparked a new wave of momentum for a sequel of the one of the most popular films of the early 2000s.

It’s not the first time Lohan has suggested she would be more than interested in starring in the film for the second time.

When celebrating the show’s 10-year anniversary, Lohan posed the idea of a sequel.

“Why can’t we do a sequel? Of us all grown up. To work with everyone involved in Mean Girls again would be an honour,” she said.

“It was such a good experience. I think it would be really cool.”

At the time, McAdams agreed, confirming she would want Tina Fey at the helm of it all again.

Despite their obvious enthusiasm, Tina Fey has all but admitted a film is off the cards for her in the immediate future. Instead, she is focused on the production of a musical based on the 2004 film.

“We haven’t finished it yet, but it’s close — yes, pretty close,” she told Billboard earlier this year.

However, Fey also said she wouldn’t be starring in the musical, nor would she reach out to former stars to reprise their own roles.

The iconic film has already been followed up by Mean Girls 2 in 2011 which did not feature any of the original cast nor did it ignite raving reviews.

Hillary Busis wrote for EW upon its release that it was a “thinly veiled, low-budget remake of the 2004 hit with which it shares a name.”

“By all means, make rip-offs about bitchy teenage girls one-upping each other at a school presided over by Principal Tim Meadows – just don’t sully Mean Girls’ reputation by associating those rip-offs with Tina Fey’s masterpiece,” she wrote at the time.

It seems without Tina Fey at the helm of a sequel, Lohan’s dream may be a pipe dream. Time will tell.
