One year after Matthew Perry died, Lisa Kudrow found a note he left her.

One year after Matthew Perry's passing, Lisa Kudrow found a reminder of him inside a very special piece of Friends memorabilia.

While making an appearance on a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore ShowKudrow was asked about what ended up happening to the iconic 'cookie time' jar from Friends.

"Matthew gave that to me at the end of our last episode," Kudrow said.

Perry, who died in October 2023 at age 54, had given the cookie jar to Kudrow as a wrap gift at the end of filming.

But Kudrow also revealed she had recently found a note inside the jar, left behind by Perry.

"I had recently found the note that he had in it for me," Kudrow shared tearfully. "I hadn't opened it up or looked inside of it. But yeah, he did. He had a note in there and I forgot about it."

While Kudrow didn't reveal the contents of the note, it was apparent that it had found her at a time when she really needed it.

"Timing is everything," she told Barrymore.

This is not the first time the iconic cookie jar has been a topic of conversation for Kudrow. During a 2020 interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Kudrow shared that it had been given to her by Perry and joked that he had stolen it — given it was so hard to take props home from the set of Friends.

"I mean we were laughing hysterically and crying, because it was the end," she said.

"The first thing I asked was, 'This is so nice. Did you get permission?'" Kudrow added, "I mean, my car used to get searched every night when I left."

With the close-knit nature of the entire cast of Friends, it comes as no surprise that the passing of Perry had, and continues to have, a lasting impact on their lives.

Following his passing, Kudrow has been vocal about how she has been navigating her grief. Just one month after Perry's death, Kudrow posted a heartfelt tribute to her Instagram page, accompanied by an old polaroid photo of the two friends together.

"Thank you for making me laugh so hard at something you said, that my muscles ached, and tears poured down my face EVERY DAY," she wrote.

"Thank you for your open heart in a six way relationship that required compromise. And a lot of 'talking.' Thank you for showing up at work when you weren't well and then, being completely brilliant. Thank you for the best 10 years a person gets to have. Thank you for trusting me.Thank you for all I learned about GRACE and LOVE through knowing you. Thank you for the time I got to have with you, Matthew."

In July 2024, during an appearance on Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend, Kudrow spoke about watching reruns of Friends in order to admire and relive Perry's work.

"After Matthew died, I could start watching the show again. Because it wasn't about me. It had to do with him for some reason," she said.

"There were marathons on, and I have spent, at times, since he died, all day long watching the show."

In a recent 2025 interview with Today, Kudrow had some sweet words to say about Perry, including her first impression of his comedy during their table read for Friends.

"He was so smart. So funny. Uniquely funny," she said. "We had that first able read. What Matthew was doing didn't sound like what I thought I was going to hear. It was like nothing I've ever heard before. I was like 'Oh boy, Matthew was blow-away hilarious.'"
