Is 'Married at First Sight' heart breaker looking for an excuse to bail?

Apparently it could’ve worked if she, ‘hadn’t been down that path before.’ Ouch.

We’ve heard he was a heart breaker from one of his ex girlfriends, and now it looks as though Married at First Sight groom, Michael could be a heart breaker again.

Roni and Michael’s wedding seemed to be one of the strongest on the marriage reality TV show – from an audiences’ perspective sparks seemed to fly instantly and for a moment we thought, maybe you really can find love at first sight.

But according to event manager Michael, we could've been wrong. He spoke to OK! Magazine and said he was actually starting to worry that he'd never experience that spark to find his perfect partner.

"When she moved in, I was worried if [a spark] would ever develop, but I wanted to give it a chance; we both wanted more than a friendship," he told the magazine.

He also said that the couple sleeping separately wasn't any cause for concern. Admitting that the couple had found it hard to feel comfortable when there were cameras in their faces - even after signing up to be on reality TV.

He also admitted the major hurdle he had to overcome was the fact that his new wife, payroll manager Roni had only just gotten out of a marriage 18 months before meeting (and marrying) Michael.

"I think if I’d found someone who hadn’t been down that path before, it might’ve made it easier for us to connect," he told OK!.

It seems a little harsh, but unfortunately the research in to remarriages says this is quite a common reaction for couples to have.

The National stepfamily resource centre says, "60% of those who get remarried redivorce."

And further studies and insights have said similar things.

A book by Alan J. Hawkins called Should I keep trying to work it out talks about second marriages and divorce in the fourth chapter, Does Divorce Help Adults Become Happier? The book says:

"About three of four divorced people will eventually remarry. However, second marriages have even higher rates of divorce, although if couples can hang on through the challenging first five years of remarriage, their chances for success are high."

And while, I know there are many successful second marriages, it seems that this hurdle for Michael is not an uncommon one. A remarriage brings its own set of challenges for both people in the new relationship.

We just hope this one proves the statistics wrong and both Roni and Michael find their happily ever after.
