It looks like reality TV may have reached its peak, with complete strangers agreeing to marry in new US show Married At First Sight.
In what they’re calling a ‘radical new social experiment’, willing participants are interviewed by a group of ‘experts’ (a psychologist, sexologist, sociologist and spiritualist), who then match them together with the person they are best suited to.
Then they must marry that person, without ever having met them. The couples literally see each other for the first time at the alter. So basically it’s like an arranged marriage, but organised by people you’ve only known a few days.
What could go wrong?!?
She looks thrilled.
After the wedding, the couples must live together for a month. At the end of that four weeks, they can decide to stay married or to get divorced.
This really is the definition of awful/amazing/can’t decide television. And in the most heartbreaking yet impossible-to-turn-away moment, one woman is clearly underwhelmed when she sees her groom for the first time waiting for her at the alter, and she does a really bad job at hiding the obvious disappointment on her face. He, meanwhile, looks ecstatic.
