Throughout her career, Mariah Carey has always had a trademark makeup look: bronzer, a pink or nude lip, and most memorably, those voluminous, fluttery black lashes.
It’s pretty hard to achieve Mariah-level lashes without a lot of mascara (and maybe some falsies too), so when the singer told Us Weekly she can’t stand the stuff it came as a bit of a surprise. “I hate mascara. I never wear it. Whenever a makeup artist tries to put it on me, I throw a fit,” the 45-year-old admitted.

That’s not the only interesting tidbit we gleaned from Carey’s interview (no, unfortunately, she didn’t address that whole ‘dating James Packer’ situation).
For one, the singer made a health decision at age 18 that probably saved her career, or at least guaranteed its longevity: putting down the cigarettes. Smoking is like Kryptonite for singers.
“I smoked quite frequently from the time I was 12 to when I was 18. I gave up smoking in one day and never went back. I absolutely detest cigarette smoke now,” she says. (Post continues after gallery.)

The Honey singer also revealed she’s got something in common with Frenchie in Grease.
“I started beauty school in the 11th grade, and a year later I was officially a beauty school dropout,” she explained to Us Weekly. Honestly, we think Carey made the right decision — she’s had more US number one singles than any solo artist in history, has won dozens of awards, and is a worldwide household name. Yeah, not bad for a beauty school dropout, huh?

If you’re feeling a little intimidated after that paragraph, don’t worry — Carey has experienced her share of beauty disasters, just like the rest of us. “I dyed my hair orange by accident in the seventh grade. It was a major disaster!” she said. Just quietly, we suspect Sun-In was involved. (Post continues after video.)
