Margot Robbie lived in a seven-person London share house. One flatmate became the love of her life.

Getting her start as Donna Freedman on Neighbours in 2008, Margot Robbie has come a long way since her Ramsay St days.

Now, the 34-year-old is producing Oscar-nominated films with husband Tom Ackerley – who together own production company LuckyChap Entertainment, and they might just be Hollywood’s latest power couple who we’re just a little bit obsessed with.

Having married back in 2016, the pair have been notoriously private about their relationship. With reports that they are expecting their first child together, here is every single detail on Margot and Tom that you are now much the better for knowing.

Who is Tom Ackerley?

Tom Ackerley is a British film producer, actor, and former assistant director. Born on June 13, 1990, in Surrey, England, Ackerley's career in film began at a young age when he appeared as an extra in the first three Harry Potter movies. 

After his initial foray into acting, Ackerley transitioned to behind-the-scenes roles, working his way up from production runner to assistant director. He gained experience on various film and television projects, including Pride, Suite Française, and Macbeth. In 2014, Ackerley's career took a pivotal turn when he co-founded LuckyChap Entertainment alongside his future wife, actress Margot Robbie, and their friends Sophia Kerr and Josey McNamara.

LuckyChap Entertainment has since produced several critically acclaimed films, including I, Tonya (2017), Promising Young Woman (2020), and the blockbuster hit Barbie (2023). Ackerley's work as a producer on Barbie earned him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2024, highlighting his growing influence in the industry.

Ackerley's personal life gained public attention when he married Margot Robbie in December 2016.

The low-key couple met in 2013 on the set of Suite Française while they were filming in France (tres romantic). Ackley was the third assistant director and Robbie played a French woman named Celine Joseph, the two later became housemates before dating sometime later that year.

Speaking to Vogue US in 2016 – around two years into dating Ackerley, Robbie revealed that she was “always in love with him.” Awwwww.

“[He was] the best-looking guy in London,” she said.

“I was the ultimate single gal. The idea of relationships made me want to vomit. And then this crept up on me. We were friends for so long.”

They have worked and lived together for a long time.

While they used to live together in a seven person share house in London, and only down-sized to a four-person share house in 2016, spending all their time together isn’t something new that came with married life.

Robbie and Ackerley have worked on multiple projects after starting their company with two of their closest friends, Josey McNamara and Robbie’s childhood friend Sophia Kerr.

Robbie told Vogue Australia in 2017 that “nothing’s really changed at all,” since the couple tied the knot in a very secret Byron Bay wedding in December 2016, and cemented their love by tattooing the date on their closest friends, as you do. 

“We were best friends and roommates before and now we’re like best friends and roommates still, so nothing’s really changed at all,” she said.

You know… other than wearing her wedding ring on weekends (because she can’t wear it on set), which she flashed in a very cheeky post-wedding Instagram.

They’ve got the whole ‘domestic life’ down pat.

Perhaps helped by their many years living together, their relationship looks pretty blissful.

They’ve got a rescue pup named Boo Radley and while Robbie is self-confessedly not a whizz in the kitchen, Ackerley is.

“Well, I’m a terrible cook,” she told news.com.au. “I recently bought olive oil from Hungary because my boyfriend is a very good cook. So, I provide the ingredients which is a subtle invitation for him to cook me a dinner.”

Sounds like a tip top arrangement to us.

Tom Acklerley was actually in Harry Potter.

This is a fact that self-confessed 'Potterhead' Margot Robbie loves about her partner. Ackerley played a Slytherin student in the first three Harry Potter films. 

Ackerley has always loved the film industry and now co-produces alongside his wife through their business LuckyChap Entertainment.  

Do Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerley have children? 

In early July it was reported that Robbie is expecting her first child with Ackerley, after seven years of marriage. Sources confirmed the news to People, although she has not yet shared the news herself.
