Margot Robbie will be one of the masterminds behind a new Aussie TV series.

Margot Robbie has already proven she’s not just a talented actress but also a savvy businesswoman with the success of I, Tonya – a film she starred in and produced.

Now, the 27-year-old is using her production company, Lucky Chap, to support an Aussie drama series. And it sounds bloody good.

The series, which according to Fairfax will also be produced by Hoodlum Entertainment, and both the Australian and US ABCs, is described as a retelling of Shakespeare’s works from a female perspective.

She was nominated for awards for a film she commissioned and produced herself. This is why we love Margot Robbie so much right now. Post continues.

But it won’t be a period drama. In the same vein as Ten Things I Hate About You (based on The Taming of the Shrew), the series will bring William Shakespeare’s plays into the modern day.

We haven’t heard comments from Robbie herself, but Hoodlum Entertainment’s Tracey Robertson told Fairfax the series creators are drawing inspiration from Netflix’s hit sci-fi anthology series Black Mirror.

Robertson said this includes the setting of each of the show’s 10 episodes – now or the near future – and also the way the episodes will have separate storylines, but follow a theme.

“What we are trying to do is take the themes of all of the different Shakespeare plays but then trying to be relatively open with how the stories are told. We want everybody to have creative freedom,” she said.

And in order to tell the stories through a female lens, they’re also going to employ female directors and writers. Shooting will start later this year, so we’ll probably have to wait until next year to see the finished product.

Meanwhile, Robbie’s company is also producing two other TV shows we can’t wait to watch.

A drama for NBC called Shattered Glass that’s been described as Revenge meets House of Cards and is all about women shattering the glass ceiling on Wall Street. And a comedy called Dollface about a woman – to be played by Two Broke Girls star Kat Dennings – whose breakup spurs her to reconnect with her neglected friends.
