Awhina just told us exactly what we didn't see at the MAFS reunion.

The end is nigh for Married at First Sight with the finale episode airing tonight off the back of last night's chaotic reunion dinner party.

The drama was a lot, hey! Even before our contestants sat down to break a loaf of artisan bread, there were already fights abounding, especially between Awhina Rutene, Adrian Araouzou and Sierah Swepstone.

The group got into a heated argument over a text message Sierah had sent to Adrian, bad-mouthing Awhina and the rest of the group. Sierah then turned it back on Awhina, claiming she had called Adrian 'dumb' and a slew of other insults during the experiment.

After the hectic dinner party aired, we spoke to Awhina about the tense moment. She claims Sierah arrived at the reunion episode with an 'agenda' to shift her narrative.

"Instead of being held accountable, she came in with an agenda. She was like, 'I need to flip this script, I need to get ahead of this storyline… I'm gonna walk in and I'm gonna turn it back onto her and paint myself as a victim'," Awhina said.

"The best way to do that is getting someone like Adrian on board, because you say one thing to Adrian, he'll run with it. Any chance to make himself the victim, he will take."

Awhina went on to claim that Sierah's previous experience on The Bachelor meant she was hyper-aware of how to steer a storyline.

"Sierra's obviously done reality TV before. If it's not filmed, it didn't happen. She wanted to get her story out there and then she left before I could get a chance to get my point of view across," she said.

"She was 110 per cent self-producing, and not only that, she made it a condition to come in and have Katie and Ash's support. She was like, 'I need to be in a room talking to Katie and Ash beforehand,' so they gave her that."

Sierah left the dinner party about halfway through, before Awhina could share her side of the story.

Awhina did note was that the arguments were quite different in real life. "Those arguments we're watching in the reunion went for longer than what we showed," she said.

The twin went on to address why her relationship with Adrian came to an end.

"Post-show, we were still very much in contact with each other, just doing those check-ins. Unfortunately, that friendship is just no longer there," she said.

"I think with everything airing out on social media, there were so many moments where Adrian was exhibiting really poor behavior, and he would watch it back, and I was always who he would take it out on… it got to a point where it's like, I'm not your partner anymore, and as a friend, you are overstepping my boundaries. I blocked him."

Reflecting on her change of heart during final vows — where she flip-flopped from dumping him to asking him to give them another chance — Awhina revealed that her motivation was actually quite surprising.

She said she only ended on that note because they had had plans to see each other again. "We did have dinner plans that night," she said.

"A lot of the production were like to us, 'It doesn't make sense when you guys are going separate ways and you guys have dinner plans, and he's taking you to the airport the next day.' Then I was like, 'Oh my God, do we seem stupid?'

"I never really wanted to savagely dump Adrian. I wanted to reiterate that we weren't compatible, but I didn't want it to be savage. I wanted it to be amicable, kind of go our separate ways, but we were still going our separate ways to dinner right afterward."

It was at this dinner on the night of final vows that the two decided their relationship was never going to work.

"We said to each other, 'We aren't compatible.' That was agreeable on both ends but we still wanted to maintain that friendship that we had and keep in contact."

As soon as Awhina returned to Perth, she knew that she and Adrian parting ways was for the best.

"The day after final vows, I landed home, and I remember stepping off the plane. It was like, this weight had been lifted off my chest. I no longer felt like I was scared to say something in fear of retaliation," she recalled.

"When I got home, I was like 'I can breathe,' and that was a very telling sign of how toxic the situation I was in."

Heading into the reunion, Awhina had a renewed sense of injustice over how she was treated by Adrian during the experiment.

"There were so many moments in the experiment where I would address my feelings of being hurt or I was upset about something, and instead of having any kind of acknowledgement of my feelings or giving emotional support, it was always flipped back onto me," she said.

"I was walking around on eggshells because I felt like I couldn't say anything without being vilified or my character being attacked."

One couple who somehow made it through the reunion unscathed and have just announced their engagement is Jacqui Burfoot and Clint Rice.

"I actually thought it was a joke at first because I found out at a viewing party for the reunion," Awhina said.

She was at an event with Jacqui's MAFS partner Ryan, who was told about the news in real-time.

"He was like 'That doesn't surprise me, it's Jacqui. Classic Jacqui'," Awhina recalled.

Along with Ryan, Awhina attended a viewing party hosted by Daily Mail, sitting beside her MAFS besties Jamie Marinos and Beth Kelly, who she considered lifelong friends.

"I am so grateful I stayed on the experiment for as long as I did, because of those friendships. I may not have left with a husband, but I definitely left with wives," she reflected.

"There were so many moments in the experiment where we really supported one another, and we needed one another there. I think to myself, had I left, I wouldn't have been there for them in their hardest moments."

As for whether Awhina would change anything about her MAFS experience, she didn't miss a beat.

"My husband," she replied with a laugh.

"No, I'm grateful for the experience as a whole now. It took me a little while to start saying that." Feature image: Nine.
