"It was Ivan’s decision." The truth behind why MAFS' Aleks and Ivan really split up.

The world is in disarray at the moment and the unnecessary drama of Married at First Sight is proving to be the soothing balm we need.

But there is an elephant in the room that needs to be addressed. What the heck happened to Aleks and Ivan?

They went from this season’s frontrunners to suddenly walking off mid-series and boycotting the Commitment Ceremony altogether. Since then, the MAFS rumour mill has been in overdrive and we’ve heard whispers of a New Year’s Eve reunion to an unfortunate second breakup.

We can’t keep track.

However, spoiler alert, it seems like the couple definitely aren’t together at the moment. While it looked like they reunited prior to filming the season finale in January 2020, they’ve once again broken up.

According to a source from the Daily Mail, Ivan was the one to end their relationship this time around, leaving Aleks “blindsided”.

“It was Ivan’s decision to end things and he dumped Aleks out of the blue. He didn’t want to be with her anymore,” they said.

“She was blindsided and is still upset. The rest of the cast are so confused, but Aleks and Ivan are respecting each other’s privacy and keeping things to themselves.”

What happened to Ivan and Aleks?

For those unaware, the couple chose to leave to show before the second-last Commitment Ceremony after a particularly dramatic dinner party saw Aleks storm off. She was furious that Michael had accused her of cheating as well as questioning her sex life with Ivan.

Michael and Josh also alleged that Ivan asked them to talk about whether he and Aleks had sex, only to deny the accusation when Michael brought it up with the group.

On the show, it seemed like Aleks and Ivan’s relationship was beyond repair when they exited. But was it?

Fellow contestants, Hayley and Natasha, have since claimed the reason Aleks and Ivan really left MAFS was because they were unhappy with how producers were interfering with their storylines.

“They were really unhappy with production and the way that things were operating,” Hayley said in the video obtained by the Daily Mail.

“They left the experiment because they weren’t happy with how they were being treated.

“They thought it was unethical and they were getting forced to make more drama within their own relationship and they wanted out.”

After the episode aired of their exit, Ivan and Aleks posted a joint statement onto their Instagrams, hinting that they rekindled their relationship off-screen.

“The pressures and expectations of the experiment got the better of us. Aleks and I stayed together the evening of our exit and I even saw her off at the airport to be with her family again,” it said.

“It was an emotional moment for the both of us. Let’s see if being outside does our relationship any more justice without the pressure and judgements of our peers. That being said, regardless of what pans out over the next few days and weeks, we are forever grateful for all of the wonderful people we have met along the way.

“We are all just humans on our own journey. Spread love, not hate and judgement.”

Did they get back together after the show?

This brings us to their post-show reunion. While their exit from the show was filmed in November 2019, now-deleted Instagram photos show they spent New Year’s together, with Ivan flying to Aleks’ hometown of Perth.

The Daily Mail also reported Aleks and Ivan were in a relationship during the show’s reunion, which was filmed in Sydney on January 15.

Is there still any chance of them getting back together?

It doesn’t look like it.

Judging from Aleks’ Instagram activity, there seems to be a bit of bad blood between the former couple.

Commenting on a paparazzi photo of Aleks, Ivan, Stacey and Michael, which was shared by meme account MAFS Funny on March 2, Aleks called Ivan a “f*ck boy”.

“I just vomited,” Stacey commented.

“I’m feeling ill as well! What were we thinking?” Aleks added.

“As if we were seen with that. Hahaha f*ck sake. I blame lack of sleep,” Stacey replied.

“We must have been losing our minds! Or maybe just falling for the f*ck boy lies and manipulation,” Aleks responded.

Ivan seemed a little more hopeful. Appearing Nova 96.9’s Fitzy & Wippa, the real estate agent was asked whether there was “a chance” him and Aleks would get back together.

“Ah yes stay tuned, I don’t close any doors that’s for sure!” he replied.

Just an educated guess but we don’t think Aleks shares his optimism.
