On tonight’s episode of Married at First Sight, psychologist Mel Schilling rips into an unsuspecting contestant.

“When you use language like that in relation to a woman, how do you expect her to respond to you?” she says.

“A tip from me to you? Don’t use language like that if you want any chance of a relationship.”

Watch MAFS expert, Mel Schilling, grill one of the contestants in tonight’s episode of Married at First Sight.

While we have our suspicions as to who Mel’s tirade could be direct at (Mike? Sam? Hopefully, both?), this season sees the experts step it up a notch in how they’re communicating to the couples.

Speaking to Mamamia, Sydney-based relationship expert and clinical psychologist, John Aiken, said viewers can expect the experts to give the contestants a tough love approach, which means the commitment ceremonies will be getting a lot juicier as a result.

“Our roles as experts at the commitment ceremonies is to really hammer home some of the frank truths of who they are and what they’re doing,” he said.

“We play a much tougher role on them. They’re very big personalities as you have seen and they need to be held accountable, so we do that.

“We’re much more direct in terms of making them reign in certain behaviour, so they start to acknowledge that it isn’t acceptable and if they continue, they’ll be single.”

Looking back at the previous five seasons, perhaps the former contestants could have done with a bit of guidance. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

With more direction from the experts – Aiken, Schilling and Dr Trisha Stratford are hoping this will lead to certain contestants changing their problematic ways.

“Otherwise, they’re just going into the experiment, doing their old problem patterns – breaking up, moving on and not doing anything,” says Aiken.

“We see our responsibility as not only facilitating the experiment but also giving them some learnings whether they want them or not.”

Either way, Sunday night commitment ceremonies are going to get a lot more dramatic.

And we can’t wait.
