Australia’s Next Top Model runner-up Lucy Markovic has died, aged 27.

Lucy Markovic, who was the runner up on Australia's Next Top Model season nine, has died aged 27.

Markovic died after a battle with a brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM), which is when a tangle of abnormal blood vessels bypasses the normal capillaries. This can lead to a bleed on the brain or tissue damage.

Markovic's partner Carlo confirmed the sad news on Instagram.

"She was at peace. Me, her mother and my mother were all present with her," the post read.

"We ask you to give us space in these hard times. May Lucy rest in peace."

The tragic news came just hours after Carlo said the model was "battling for her life" and asked everyone to send prayers.

Industry friends shared their condolences for the model in the comments.

Fellow model Alex Consani wrote, "Rest in peace angel."

YouTuber Cartia Mallan shared, "All my love to your family. I'm absolutely heartbroken."

On March 6, Markovic shared a health update from the hospital, writing on Instagram: "Lucky + unlucky — radiation, seizures, heavy medication and 4 years later.

"I will be undergoing brain surgery on the 26th of this month for the AVM in the back of my brain (arteriovenous malformation) that is the size of a golf ball. (Now has changed to the 2nd of April)."

"Excited, thankful, scared, supported, hopeful.

"Full flood of emotions in this time. Life's a journey and I'm ready for the next chapter."

Markovic was crowned runner-up on the 2015 season of Australia's Next Top Model, aged just 16 when she joined the show.

The model went on to work with big Australian brands like Ksubi and Sass and Bride, as well as international labels including Versace and Givenchy.

Her modelling agency, Elite NYC, also shared a tribute on Instagram following her passing.

"Lucy was a bright shining light, and had an incredible dry sense of humour. Her smile and laughter could light up a room, and draw you closer to her. She loved to dance, she really shined," the post read.

"Modelling was one of Lucy's dreams, and we are deeply honoured to have been part of that journey with her. She brought elegance, strength, and beauty to her work. But more than that, she brought herself—her warmth, her laughter, her light.

"To her family and friends, please know that you are in our prayers and in our hearts. We mourn with you, and we celebrate the incredible person Lucy was. We will never forget her."
