Louise Hunt volunteered to help domestic violence victims. Her husband was just arrested for her murder.

Louise Hunt was a kind soul with an adventurous spirit. She loved a backyard BBQ and a beach getaway — any excuse to spend time with her family.

A devoted mother of two and advocate of domestic violence prevention, Louise, or Weezi as she was affectionately called, lived life to the fullest.

That life deserved to continue.

Instead, her future was taken from her, allegedly at the hands of her husband, Cameron Hunt.

Louise's body was discovered in the ashes of her burnt-out family home at Geham, in a rural community north of Toowoomba, after the house went up in flames just before 3am on Tuesday.

Two children were home at the time but were found safe and well, police said.

However, her husband was nowhere to be seen.

About 12 hours later, Hunt was found in Redcliffe, north of Brisbane, more than two hours' away.

He has been charged with the domestic violence murder of his wife and arson of the home.

Louise was someone who supported the community, volunteering at Protea Place, a local charity that helps vulnerable women in the community. It was there she met Amanda Dalton, the charity's CEO.

"Louise was the epitome of the most amazing and beautiful woman," Amanda told reporters on Wednesday. "The care and compassion for anyone in need is what shone through to us.

"Louise's life was for her children and her family. We just can't make sense of this on any level."

The tragedy has left the rural community reeling as they come to terms with the death of a loving and caring mother.

Protea Place is set to hold a candlelit vigil for Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month. Louise would have been among the supporters. Now, she's one of the victims they will be remembering.

"When it's someone you know personally, it just knocks the absolute wind out of you on a deeper level," Andrea said.

Toowoomba Mayor Geoff McDonald paid tribute to Louise online, saying the community was heartbroken by the "tragic and senseless loss".

"Our deepest condolences go out to all who are grieving," he said. "No one should ever have their life taken by violence.

"Let's stand united in our commitment to creating a safer future for all. May the memory of Louise be a light in the darkness."

A neighbouring family, who didn't want to be named, were shocked and devastated when they found out Louise had been killed.

They tearily told AAP the Hunts were a "lovely family" and although they mostly kept to themselves, they could be a lot of fun.

The neighbours said Louise was kind, caring and a hard-working mum while her husband always checked in on those around him.

"We never saw it coming ... it rattles you," the neighbours said. "What should we have done as a community to see the signs."

People say the couple didn't have any domestic violence red flags in the system.

Hunt's matter was mentioned at Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday, where he was excused from appearing and remained at the police watchhouse.

The case was adjourned for three months for police to prepare a brief of evidence.

Hunt was remanded in custody and is due to face court on July 16.

'An exceptional human.'

Louise worked at TUFF Group, a four-wheel-drive parts manufacturer in Toowoomba.

The company issued a statement to media saying they were devastated by the loss.

"The impact on the TUFF family has been enormous and incomprehensible," they said.

"We are together grieving the loss of a work colleague, friend and an exceptional human being."

Louise was described as the "creative force" behind the brand on the company's website.

"When Louise isn't busy crafting compelling marketing campaigns, she cherishes time spent with her family," it said.

"From a backyard BBQ to a beach getaway, Louise is happiest when she is with her husband, kids and adorable pets. She also loves spending time with friends, enjoying delicious food, and pairing it with a good glass of wine.

"Louise's adventurous spirit was evident from a young age. Growing up in Zimbabwe, she had encounters that not many can boast about, including being chased by an elephant and a warthog."
