One Direction's Louis Tomlinson has been arrested for allegedly defending his girlfriend.

Louis Tomlinson has been arrested in LA, and his fans aren’t coping.

The One Direction star was charged with simple battery on Friday after allegedly pulling an overbearing paparazzo to the ground at LAX.

According to TMZ, the 25-year-old singer was with his girlfriend when the photographer got too close for comfort.

Tomlinson allegedly pulled the photographer to the floor by his legs, the paparazzo fell backwards and struck his head and back on the floor.

The photographer then made a citizen’s arrest and Tomlinson was later arrested at an LAPD precinct.

TMZ also reports that a woman started filming Tomlinson’s girlfriend as she left the airport and then the two women got into a physical alteration.

Tomlinson’s legal team has released a statement in his defence.

“The paparazzi provoked and caused the altercation that occurred with Louis,” it said. “It’s not the first time that a paparazzi has created an altercation with a celebrity.”

The statement also alleged that Tomlinson was aiding his girlfriend, Eleanor Calder, who was allegedly being swarmed by people at the airport at the time, too.

Tomlinson’s fans aka the ‘Directioners’ have also taken to social media to come to his defence, using the hashtag ‘We Support Louis’.

It’s unclear whether Tomlinson’s girlfriend, the photographer, or the other woman involved in the incident, have also been charged.
