'I've rolled my eyes at eye creams for years. This $55 one proved me wrong in 15 minutes.'

I'm a bit of a "girly girl" at heart — I love beauty products, the smells, the pretty packaging. But the older I get, the more I feel like most of it doesn't actually work. With so many options out there, I just want someone to point to one and say, "This one. This one actually works."

I adore the idea of a 10-step routine, and I genuinely want to be that person. But with new products flooding the market and life getting busier, it's overwhelming.

I have three kids, a full-time job and a social life that's mostly lived out in a group chat. My days are planned in 60-minute blocks. Do I know what we're having for dinner tomorrow night? Absolutely not. Who will be doing school drop-off tomorrow? No clue.

The downside of this constant rush is that it shows — especially around my eyes. Puffiness was making me look older and more tired than I felt, and I was starting to worry that my under-eye bags were filing for permanent residency.

There's been hype about the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Laser Eye Bag Instant Eraser ($54.99) — a product promising to reduce the appearance of fine lines, puffiness and eye bags in just 15 minutes with results that last up to eight hours (!).

The formula features a honeycomb, matrix micro-structure (fancy) containing airlicium, a skincare ingredient known for its mattifying and blurring effect on the skin, and a silicone elastomer to make the under-eye area look lifted.

My under-eyes were ready to drink this, so I tried it. Here's what I found.

First trial.

The first time I used the product was on a chaotic weekday morning before work, wrangling five people out of the house. I had about 20 minutes to get myself dressed, face prepped and out the door.

My usual skincare routine is simple: moisturiser, some vitamin C (if I'm lucky), sunscreen and some light makeup. On this day, I added the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Laser Eye Bag Instant Eraser.

The results were instant. The product's gel-to-tape formula blurred the appearance of my eye bags and wrinkles. It genuinely felt like it gave my whole under-eye area a subtle lifted look.

Honestly, it was the shortcut to nailing that "effortless mum" look without having to put in any of the actual effort.

Second trial.

My second major test came after one of those hellish nights that, honestly, aren't so rare now. One of my kids woke up to go to the bathroom, then decided they'd had enough sleep and refused to go back to bed.

I spent the next three hours cycling through every tactic: tickling their back, threatening no TV on the weekend, cuddling, begging — anything to try and get them back to sleep. Next thing, it was 1:40am, and we were still yet to settle.

Not long after, my alarm ripped me out of a half-sleep at 6am. I felt like I'd been hit by a truck.

I grabbed the tube.

The product itself is a thick, non-watery gel texture, not like those light, airy moisturisers I'd dismissed before. I applied a tiny, rice-grain sized amount, dabbing it gently under my eye after my regular skincare.

It honestly looked like my skin had been ironed out, resulting in a filter-like look. They say it takes 15 minutes, but my under-eyes appeared smoother and more blurred instantly.

Third trial.

The final test came midweek during a classic mum-life scramble: running straight from a long day at work to our first kindy orientation.

Let's be honest, it's a major new stage in a family's life, and it typically involves meeting new mum friends who you'll see day in and day out for the next six years.

So, that being said, I was desperate to look less "hot mess mum" and more "has-it-all-together mum". But I was late, stressed and catching my reflection in the rearview mirror confirmed I looked utterly haggard.

I didn't have time to go home first or re-do my makeup in the car. But the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Laser Eye Bag Instant Eraser can be applied over foundation and concealer, so it became my secret midday refresh.

I dabbed a tiny amount directly on top of my base. It worked instantly to reduce the appearance of those pesky eye bags. I looked energetic and fresh, which actually made me feel good too.

The final verdict.

This product has been my saving grace. It lasts for up to eight hours, so whether I'm heading into an important meeting or just need to look vaguely put-together, it delivers.

It's the perfect fast-acting product for women who live life in hour-by-hour blocks. It's not too exxy at $55, offering quick results that buys you time before you start seriously considering other options.
