Here's what your favourite past Best New Talent Logie Award winners are up to today.

The TV Week Logie Awards have once again graced us with their presence.

And while we’re all tuning in to back our favourites from this years’ pool of nominees, we can’t help but be reminded of the winners of Logies’ past.

Especially those tipped to take their careers to great heights, taking out the Silver Logie for Most Popular New Talent, which honours newcomers to the small screen in living rooms across Australia.

Many of whom, as predicted, have gone on to gain international recognition.

From Isabel Lucas to Simon Baker, here, we look back at where some of our favourite winners are now.

Miranda Tapsell

The actress famously used her acceptance speech for Most Popular New Talent at the 2015 Logies Awards to call for more Indigenous stories t be told on Australian TV.

“Put more beautiful people of colour on TV and connect viewers in ways which transcend race and unite us,” she said to a standing ovation, adding “That’s the real team Australia.”

The Larrakia woman, who won for her portrayal of Martha in Love Child, has since become a regular fixture on the Aussie small screen, starring in Doctor Doctor, Newton’s Law and No Activity.

She joined iconic ABC children’s show Playschool in 2016 as a presenter and for an upcoming episode for NAIDOC Week this year, Tapsell will get to know new friend to the show, Kiya, an Indigenous doll. This year Tapsell co-wrote and starred in the hit Aussie rom-com Top End Wedding. 

Brenna Harding

When she won the Logie for Most Popular New Female Talent in 2013 for her role as Sue Knight in Puberty Blues, Harding thanked “two women, my beautiful mothers”.

“It’s very nice to know that our society has progressed,” Brenna said shortly after her win. “Even on Twitter where anyone can say whatever they want, there was no mention of it being a bad thing. All there was, was comments saying ‘they’ve raised her so well’. It was nice to have no backlash at all.”

The actress, who was still in Year 11 at the time of her Logies win, has most notably appeared in cult Netflix sci-fi series Black Mirror. Starring in the much-hyped episode Ark Angel, directed by two-time Oscar winner Jodie Foster, Brenna plays Sara, a rebellious teenager who had a computer chip inserted into her as a young girl.

Harding has also appeared in many theatre productions, including The Almighty Sometimes, The Bleeding Tree and The Wolves.

She won the Most Popular New Female Talent in 2003 for playing Tasha Andrews in Home and Away, and since leaving the series in 2006, Lucas broke into Hollywood, starring in a number of blockbusters, including Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Daybreakers, Immortals and Red Dawn. 

She also played Samantha Cage in the CBS remake of MacGyver for two seasons.

The now 33-year-old moved back to Australia in 2016 after almost a decade in Los Angeles, to be closer to family and work on Australian films. She lives in Byron Bay, where her ex-boyfriend Chris Hemsworth (they dated years ago during their Home and Away days) lives with his wife Elsa Pataky and family, as well as singer Angus Stone, who she split with in 2012.

In 2007, she was arrested by Japanese police over her part in an anti-whaling protest.

Lincoln Lewis

The son of rugby league legend Wally Lewis, Lincoln Lewis won the Logie for Most Popular New Male Talent in 2008 for his breakout role as Geoff Campbell in Home and Away.

 Appearing in 567 episodes of the show, Lincoln made his final appearance in 2010 and went on to star in Aussie TV dramas Rescue: Special Ops and Underbelly: Razor (which required him to perform his first nude scene), as well as the film Tomorrow, When The War Began. He was also cast in popular drama House Husbands and appeared on Hell’s Kitchen Australia as a celebrity contestant.

But Lewis’ name has most recently made headlines as his identity had been stolen by Melbourne woman Lydia Abdelmalek to catfish women online into believing they were in a relationship with the actor.

Brooke Satchwell 

The crush of every teenage boy in the '90s and early '00s, Brooke Satchwell's Anne Wilkinson on Neighbours won her the 1998 Logie for Most Popular New Talent.

She got her big film break in 2008 when she starred as the lead in Subdivision. She joined Packed to the Rafters as Frankie in 2013 and was a regular panelist on comedy show Dirty Laundry Live and Show Me the Movie. 

In 2006, Satchwell's boyfriend at the time, fellow Aussie actor Matthew Newton, was arrested for physically assaulting her. He pleaded guilty to common assault after three more serious charges were withdrawn. Matthew's conviction was later overturned.

Lisa McCune 

The four-time Gold Logie winner won her first Logie in 1995 for Most Popular New Talent as Constable Maggie Doyle in Blue Heelers. She played the much-loved character for seven seasons, until Maggie was shot and killed in 2002, which is still to this day one of the most iconic moments in Australian TV history.

After Blue Heelers, McCune rarely left our TV screens, starring in shows Sea Patrol, Reef Doctors and It's A Date. She recently reunited with Peter Helliar from It's A Date as husband and wife in 2018's How To Stay Married. 

Simon Baker

Simon Baker - known for his ongoing role as Patrick Jane on The Mentalist - won the silver Logie for Most Popular New Talent in 1993 while he was appearing on early 90s soap E Street.

The 49-year-old's career has been on an upward trajectory since then. Having relocated to LA shortly after taking out the title, he went on to appear in Academy Award winning cop drama L.A. Confidential in 1997,  starring alongside Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce.

In 2001, he scored a gig as Nick Fallin on The Guardian, and in 2002, he was voted among People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People.

But who could forget his performance as the shady Christian Thompson in The Devil Wears Prada? Iconic.

Most recently, he directed and starred in the film adaptation of Tim Winton's Breath.

In 1998, he married Australian actress Rebecca Rigg. They have three children together - a daughter, Stella, 25, and two sons; Claude, 20, and Harry, 17.

Former model Melissa George is no stranger to the Logies, having been nominated for several awards from 1994 to 2012.

Of course it all stemmed from the year she won Best New Talent in 1994 while playing Summer Bay teenage runaway Angel Brooks on Home and Away.

The following year the 42-year-old won the Logie for Popular Actress, and the year after that she was nominated for the Gold Logie, but was beaten out by Richard Roxburgh.

She's best known for David Lynch's acclaimed film Mulholland Drive (2001), The Amityville Horror (2005), and 30 Days of Night (2007), as well as Grey's Anatomy.

She's also popped up in Friends, Monk and Alias over the years.

In 2012, she picked up another Logie win for Outstanding Actress in ABC's The Slap.

Melissa - who lives Paris - was allegedly assaulted by her long-term partner Jean-David Blanc in 2016. They split in September that year, with Melissa sharing her story of escaping alleged domestic violence on Sunday Night in 2017.

Blanc is the father of her two sons; Raphael, five and Solal, three.

Last year, Melissa was spotted sporting a sizeable ring on her engagement ring finger, but it is not known whether she is currently romantically involved with anyone.

Who doesn't remember channelling Dani Sutherland in their early-noughties youth? School uniform hemmed well above the upper knee? Slick-straight hair?

We all wanted to be Tammin Sursok at some point, right?

So it came as no surprise when the Home and Away actress took out the Best New Talent Logie in 2001.

Since then, she's starred in Pretty Little Liars (2010) as Jenna Marshall, Rules of Engagement (2007) and Crossing Over (2009).

In 2011, she married actor and director Sean McEwen, and they have two daughters; Phoenix, five, and Lennon, born in January this year.

Sursok, 35, has previously spoken about the back-to-back miscarriages she had after giving birth to Phoenix, saying she did experience "sadness and depression" at that time.

"It took me a long time to share it,” she said on an episode of Dr. Berlin’s Informed Pregnancy podcast.

“[But] if I can make one person feel less alone … Because it happens so much, I think it’s 1 in 4 [women].”
