Lisa Wilkinson's daughter shares heartfelt 'thank you' to her mother after she quit Nine.

When Lisa Wilkinson made the shock announcement that she would no longer be joining Karl Stefanovic on The Today Show, and would instead be sitting beside Carrie Bickmore and Waleed Aly on rival network Channel 10’s The Project, the congratulatory messages came in thick and fast.

But none is more poignant than the post shared by Wilkinson’s own daughter, Billi FitzSimons.

The 20-year-old, who recently played bridesmaid as her parents renewed their vows, thanked her mum for “paving the way” with her bold career move.

“Thank you, Mum, for paving the way for the next generation and every generation to come,” she shared on Instagram.

“You are a leader and an inspiration for so many tonight.”

It’s believed Lisa’s decision to leave Today was in part caused by speculation that her co-host Karl was earning twice the pay she was for the very same gig.

Many prominent Australian figures were quick to congratulate Lisa for standing up for the rights of women and demanding equal pay for equal work.

While Lisa’s move is a big one for women in media, it was the final line of Billi’s message to her mum that shows just how big a change her new job will be for her family.

“I can’t wait to see you at the breakfast table tomorrow morning,” she wrote.

After almost a decade of 3am starts, today will be the first day Lisa will be able to sit with her family and enjoy a slice of Vegemite toast (or perhaps a mimosa to celebrate) at the breakfast table.

It’s a sentiment that was also echoed by Lisa’s husband of 25 years, journalist and author Peter FitzSimons, who shared on Twitter that having his wife home would be like having “a whole new life”.
