The 3 word phrase we all need to stop telling our girls.

At what point did doing something “like a girl” become an insult?

That’s the question being posed in a new viral ad campaign, urging people to think deeply about the effects those three words can have on impressionable teenage girls.

A sample of girls, spanning from pre pubescent to older adolescents, were asked to reenact what it means to throw like a girl, fight like a girl, and run like a girl.

And the widely differing responses from the young girls and those who were nearly adults revealed some startling truths.

Watch the amazing #likeagirl video below:

Though the young girls all threw, ran and fought with strength, passion and determination, the older women interpreted “like a girl” to mean uncoordinated, awkward and clueless. Somewhere along the way during adolescence, the phrase “like a girl” had disempowered them.

But we’re going to help reclaim the phrase, and today we ask you to help us.

After all, why should doing anything “like a girl” be an insult?

Let’s get the conversation started. Let’s show the current generation just how amazing a woman who puts her mind to any given task can be. Because that right there is what the definition of “doing things like a girl” should be.

Pass on this post if you agree.
