"I wish her nothing but happiness." Liam Hemsworth speaks about his split from Miley Cyrus.

Following the news that Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have ended their marriage less than a year after their intimate at-home nuptials, the 29-year-old Australian actor has responded for the first time to the split on Instagram.

Posting a photo of a beach sunset to his Instagram page, the Isn’t It Romantic star’s caption was brief and to the point, expressing that he does not wish to comment further on what led to the breakdown of their on-off relationship that spanned a decade.

“Hi all. Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward,” he posted.

“This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false.
Peace and Love.”

The post comes after Daily Mail Australia quoted Hemsworth talking about his marriage split after he was approached in NSW’s Byron Bay.

“You don’t understand what it’s like,” he was quoted as saying. “I don’t want to talk about it, mate.”

This morning, People also published a story claiming Cyrus was “fighting to make it work”.

It quoted a source that claimed the couple had actually been separated for several months before their breakup was confirmed.

Another source told E! News the couple had been struggling for a while, but distance and different career priorities ultimately led them to “drift apart”.

“They have been trying to make it work for months now but haven’t felt they were connecting on the level they were feeling when they got married last year. It’s been a rough year,” the source said.

“It wasn’t an ugly end, Miley and Liam have still been communicating and it wasn’t a messy split but they have decided they are at different points in their lives currently.”

Cyrus’s representatives confirmed the end of Cyrus and Hemsworth’s marriage to People, on August 10, in a statement that read: “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time,

“Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.

“They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart.

“Please respect their process and privacy,” the statement read.

Today, the source claimed Cyrus was seeking therapy to work on their marriage problems.

“She wanted to go to therapy,” they said. “She just wants to be in a healthy and focused place.”

Cyrus, 26, and Hemsworth, 29, met on the set of The Last Song in 2009, when they were aged just 16 and 19 respectively.

Hemsworth proposed in 2012, but the two ended their engagement and broke up a year later, before reconciling in 2015.

In December 2018, they wed during an intimate ceremony at their home in Tennessee, following the loss of their Malibu home in a fire.

Cyrus is currently on holiday in Italy with reality TV star Kaitlynn Carter, who is also newly single after parting ways with Brody Jenner.

Amongst a sea of holiday snaps with captions like “Life’s a climb, but the view is great” and “New day. New Adventure”, Cyrus has thrown some cryptic messaging in the mix.

“Don’t fight evolution, because you will never win,” she wrote.

“Like the mountain I am standing on top of, which was once under water, connected with Africa, change is inevitable.

“The Dolomites were not created overnight it was over millions of years that this magnificent beauty was formed.

“My dad always told me ‘nature never hurries but it is always on time’ it fills my heart with peace and hope KNOWING that is true.

“I was taught to respect the planet and its process and I am committed to doing the same with my own,” she continued.

Cyrus made headlines last month after an interview with ELLE, which gave readers a glimpse into her self-described unconventional marriage.

“I think it’s very confusing to people that I’m married,” she told the magazine.

“But my relationship is unique. And I don’t know that I would ever publicly allow people in there because it’s so complex, and modern, and new that I don’t think we’re in a place where people would get it. I mean, do people really think that I’m at home in a f*cking apron cooking dinner?”

She went on to speak about her sexuality adding that “she was still very sexually attracted to women” but she’d made a “partner decision” in Hemsworth.

She also shared her thoughts on having children, telling ELLE she didn’t want kids for the moment for environmental reasons.

“Until I feel like my kid would live on an earth with fish in the water, I’m not bringing in another person to deal with that,” she said.

“We’re getting handed a piece-of-sh*t planet, and I refuse to hand that down to my child.”
