The hunt for the perfect kids' Christmas gift is over. This is it.

Shhhhh, can you hear it? It's the sound of the festive season inching ever closer, bringing with it that layer of "more". More parties, more school-based events, more opportunities to eat copious amounts of cheese (just me?) and more pressure to nail this year's gift-giving.

Every December, I tell myself that this is the year I'll be organised. Gifts will be sorted early. I'll actually "add to cart" those screenshots saved on my phone. It'll be all #organisedmum energy.

And yet, inevitably, I find myself standing in the shopping centre or scrolling through those screenshots, muttering: "What do I buy that'll be used more than once and not cause immediate regret?"

Because here's the thing: finding the perfect Christmas gift is tricky. Finding a Christmas gift the whole family actually enjoys? Well, that's the ultimate unicorn. With a variety of ages and interests within our household, finding something that my kids, husband, extended family and I all genuinely like is… slim.

But this year, I finally hit the jackpot. Let me introduce you to Let's Sing 2026, the karaoke experience that lets this millennial karaoke queen take the top spot on the podium for gifts.

How it works.

When the box arrived, I had vivid flashbacks to my own teenage bedroom; hairbrush mic in hand, belting out questionable renditions of 2000s pop hits that I had painstakingly recorded off the radio. Absolute peak millennial teenagehood. So I was very ready to upgrade and pass the mic to the next generation.

Set up took all of five minutes, an impressive feat for someone who sometimes struggles to charge her phone. No tech stress, no tears, just an easy plug-and-play experience. We played Let's Sing 2026 on our Nintendo Switch, but it's also available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Singers can choose to use the included microphones or, and this blew my kids' minds, turn up to four smartphones into mics using the Let's Sing app. Within seconds, everyone was ready to go, phones in hand, eagerly choosing songs and designing avatars.

The family test run.

Let's Sing 2026 has four fun modes. We kicked off with Classic Mode, where each of us could sing solo or join up to four other singers. There's also Duet Mode for harmonising with a partner, Career Mode for a single-player journey and Game Mode, where you can compete online against dozens of singers.

We kicked things off with my 11-year-old performing Billie Eilish's 'Birds of a Feather', channelling full-on Grammy-level emotion. My youngest dove straight into Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe', my husband gave some Imagine Dragons a go, and Dad and I teamed up for a Crowded House duet that will likely live on in family folklore for decades.

That's one of the best things about Let's Sing 2026: it's genuinely for every generation. There's something for everyone among its chart-topping tracks, from Selena Gomez and Amy Shark to Lewis Capaldi, plus plenty of classic bangers to keep us millennials happy.

And if your crew's a little extra (like mine), you can expand the playlist to over 180 songs with the VIP Pass. Each game comes with a free month, and it's worth it for the extra options with everything from new hits to sing-along anthems.

The perks I didn't see coming.

I'd love to say we kept things civil, but the second that score screen popped up, it was on. Suddenly it was 'best of five' territory, and we had alliances forming, judging panels and (suspiciously biased) applause.

There's a magic that happens when everyone's laughing and singing (badly or otherwise). The game naturally builds confidence. Even my usually shy youngest was soon taking centre stage.

It's equal parts hilarious and heart-warming to see your family fully commit to a power ballad. For us, it's become the go-to after-dinner activity, something that drags everyone off their individual screens and back into one room together.

And as a parent, with kids aged eight to 13, that's a huge win. It reminds me a little of when I was younger and my family would sit together to watch the latest episode of whatever show we were watching. An hour spent together, as a family, regardless of whatever else we had going on.

My final thoughts.

If you've been searching for that elusive Christmas present, one that doesn't just get unwrapped, played with once and forgotten by Boxing Day, this is it. It's fun, inclusive and actually brings people together.

We often travel to visit family after Christmas, and being super portable and easy to set up means we can take Let's Sing 2026 on the road for some interstate karaoke competition. It's officially on permanent rotation in our home, and it's a rare gift that works just as well for a kids' sleepover as it does for family night.

Purchase Let's Sing 2026 from major retailers including JB HiFi, Big W, Target, EB Games or The Gamesmen.
