We love Lena Dunham because she speaks her mind. Today, she’s done it again. Brilliantly.
Today, Lena Dunham is taking a stand against unequal marriage laws around the world.
Dunham and her long-term boyfriend Jack Antonoff have spoken about when they will spend their lives together. It turns out, that time won’t be until her sister is able to freely and openly get married. As a gay woman.
Dubham told E! News, “We’re not against marriage, but I want to wait until it’s something — my sister’s gay and it just doesn’t feel good to me to do something she can’t do. She can do it in some places, but not all places.”
There are currently 19 states that allow gay marriage, but Dunham won’t budge on her decision until that number increases.
Dunham has described Antonoff as her “soul mate and life partner”, saying this about how they began their relationship:
“We met and the day after we were apart for three months and so our relationship was sort of formed long distance, like, that’s what I became used to. But now, for the most part, we see each other… we try not to be apart for more than a week or two.”
We hope Dunham holds out on her request, because her own marriage will be that much sweeter.
