Two years after Jock Zonfrillo's death his family is honouring him in the most perfect way.

It's been more than two years since beloved MasterChef judge Jock Zonfrillo passed away, and his family have just shared that they are honouring his memory in the most perfect way.

Jock's body was found in a hotel room on Lygon Street, near Melbourne's CBD, on May 1, 2023. Police had been called to conduct a welfare check on the father-of-four, just one day before the new season of MasterChef was due to premiere.

His cause of death has never been publicly disclosed.

This week, Jock's wife, Lauren Zonfrillo, announced that Jock had been working on a cookbook before his death.

So, she — alongside their two children, and Ava, Jock's eldest daughter from a previous relationship — have finished it.

The cookbook was announced on Lauren's Instagram with a touching video featuring Ava's voice.

"The kitchen was really the heart of our home. Dad loved cooking, and he loved having fun with it," she said, adding she worked with Jock in the kitchen.

"(The cookbook) is a celebration of the fun dad had in the kitchen, and we are super proud other families will have it in theirs too."

An accompanying caption read: "This one's from us — the little crew who sat on the kitchen stools, learning, chatting and eating with Dad.

"He'd started his cookbook when we lost him, so we finished it.

"Recipes to Remember is filled with the meals he made for us, photos from our family albums, and — in his own words — what he loved about food and life."

The cookbook will be released on July 29.

Lauren and Jock have two children together: Alfie, seven, and a daughter named Isla. Zonfrillo also has two daughters, Ava and Sofia, from previous relationships.

In April, Liz Hayes conducted the first public interview with Lauren Zonfrillo since Jock's passing.

The 7NEWS Spotlight special saw Lauren open up about her life since losing her husband.

"Could I have been a better wife? Did I love him enough? Did I do enough?" Lauren questioned herself during the intimate conversation.

For the first time, she shared previously unseen family videos and spoke candidly about her journey through grief.

Lauren also told Hayes how much she struggled with motherhood following Jock's death, offering a raw glimpse into the reality of processing loss while raising children.

"I was trying to avoid my kids, actually. It was just such hard work," she admitted.

"I would go out for dinner by myself once a week... solo date night... and I'd just sit and write. I'd probably go out another night with a friend... babysitter after babysitter after babysitter."

Lauren shared how her children struggled with her absence.

"These kids were a gang who just wanted these babysitters gone. They wanted me. And so I would get home, and they were nowhere near bed, and it was just an absolute mess and they were doing it on purpose, and I just kept going out."

The turning point came during a session with her therapist. "My therapist said... 'You tapped out of parenting and you tapped into you'. And I was really offended by that," Lauren recalled.

"She realised what she'd said and sort of unpacked it for me. She said, 'You had to tap out of something and you couldn't tap out of you, because you had to build you and your mind and body back to be able to tap back into parenting... and the kids were durable, they'll be okay... you need some time'.

"And that was actually great advice, because it's extremely selfish, and it is in a way, you abandoned the children in a time of need. But she said, 'You have no strength to do it, so that's not bad'."

Lauren's memoir, titled Till Death Do Us Part: Life without Jock and learning to live with intention, came out in May.

"It's been really hard to explain how we got from absolute catastrophe to this new version of our life, which, in spite of it all, is quite bright and optimistic," Lauren said in a video post announcing the book.

She admitted the writing process was challenging.

"It was not at all cathartic. I re-read journals from some very dark and broken places and probably undid a bit of my progress, to be honest. But it did make me think deeper about some really complex parts of grief."

It is understood that Lauren was on holiday in Rome with Alfie and Isla at the time of Jock's passing, and she contacted the police when her husband stopped answering her calls.

Lauren and Jock met over Twitter in October 2014. They spoke every day until Jock flew from Adelaide to Sydney for their first date.

"When she walked through the door she smiled, and I just knew," Zonfrillo wrote in his memoir. "We were going to be a thing, and it was going to be wonderful. It was as simple as that."

The couple wed on New Year's Day in 2017.

A month after his death, Lauren made her first statement via an Instagram video shared on Jock's account.

"I put in a line in the sand thinking that at the one-month mark I would turn some kind of corner," she said.

"Obviously, that hasn't happened. And there's no time that I could allocate to say thank you to everyone. I am just overwhelmed by the messages that came in from people all over the world that knew him or didn't know him."

She added poignantly, "I really wish that he knew how loved he was, and he knew the impact that he had on so many people."

Lauren explained that her husband had been working on numerous projects prior to his death, and she was carefully considering what to share with his followers.

"He's got a lot of behind-the-scenes interviews and photos from MasterChef. He's got books, a fashion range. He's got spirits ageing in a distillery in Tassie. He's got a TV show he filmed in Italy last year with the family," she said.

"As I am kind of pondering what is appropriate or not, if I don't really know what's right, I'll put a poll up on here and you guys can tell me 'yes' or 'no'. Somehow we will work out whether there's a path forward here or if we don't do anything at all. But thanks again, and I will manage his channel from now on, and I'll respond to as much as I can."

To this day, Lauren frequently honours her late husband on social media, and now through her upcoming memoir.

"For those going through loss, I am writing this book so that your hands can land on it when you are reaching out in the darkness for something, anything, that might give you stability," she said on Instagram.
