The reason Lady Gaga's stunning Golden Globes dress looks so eerily familiar.

At this year’s Golden Globes, a star was truly born.

Lady Gaga, who played Ally in A Star Is Born, paid tribute to the franchise in her choice of dress.

The singer wore a custom lavender Valentino dress with puffy sleeves and a long train, which looked eerily familiar.

The dress is possibly a nod to Judy Garland, who played the same character as Gaga in the second version of the film.

Garland wore a similar dress in the 1954 iteration of the film while singing My Melancholy Baby.

Gaga took the theme a lil’ bit further, also dyeing her blonde hair a shade of purple.

Garland made the 1954 version of the film with her then-husband Sid Luft, in an attempt to restore her reputation in Hollywood.

However, the film – which had key scenes cut by the studio – flopped in cinemas. At that year’s Oscars, Garland was sure she would receive the gong for best actress, but instead, it went to Grace Kelly for her role in The Country Girl.

“The grosses fell by half. We went from heroes to failures. I said to Judy, ‘Jesus, baby, this picture is not going to make any money!’ We couldn’t believe what was happening,” Luft explained in his memoir.

A Star Is Born would be Garland’s last major movie role. She would later find work in singing tours and TV shows, but would never again rise to the heights of fame she experienced in her younger years.

After the film, her dependence on prescription medications increased, and she nearly died of liver failure.

Following years of failures and disappointments, Garland and Luft divorced in 1965.

In 1969, Garland died of a drug overdose. She was just 47 years old.

Gaga is nominated for Best Actress in a Drama Motion Picture for her role in the film. She’s already won Best Original song for Shallow.
