Kyle Sandilands kept getting a headache. Now, he's going into emergency brain surgery.

Kyle Sandilands has never been one to hold back, and today was no exception. In a raw and unexpected moment on air, the KIIS FM radio host revealed he has been diagnosed with a brain aneurysm and will undergo emergency surgery.

In his signature blunt style, the radio star told his longtime co-host and close friend Jackie O Henderson his diagnosis came after a series of persistent headaches.

Listeners might have noticed Kyle was missing from the show on Friday. Now we know why.

"On Friday, I was told by my medical team that I have a brain aneurysm and it requires immediate attention, brain surgery," he said on The Kyle & Jackie O Show.

An aneurysm is a weakened blood vessel in the brain that has ballooned, creating a serious and potentially life-threatening situation. If left untreated, it could rupture, leading to a stroke or worse.

"If it bursts, I die instantly," Kyle said.

In true Kyle fashion, the 52-year-old still managed to crack a few jokes about his fate, telling listeners to "lap it up" because he might not be around much longer.

"And if you're in Melbourne… you're coming to the party too late. You may get your wish. I may be dead," he added.

Jackie O, clearly shaken by the news, tried to keep things positive, but Kyle wasn't having it. "That doesn't work in real life," he quipped.

The surgery, which could involve either keyhole laparoscopy or a more invasive procedure, will require Kyle to take a break from his hosting duties for up to eight weeks.

"My wife, every time I look at her, her eyes well up with tears. She is already counting down the days," he said.

Kyle has been open in the past about his hard-living ways, but fatherhood shifted his perspective.

Since welcoming his son Otto in 2022 with wife Tegan Kynaston, he's admitted that his priorities have changed.

"For years, I just lived hard and fast and recklessly… But when you've got a child, and you're 52, you think, 'I best be careful here, there's much more to live for'," he told 7NEWS last year.

While fans will undoubtedly miss his larger-than-life presence on air, the overwhelming response has been one of love and support. Listeners have flooded social media with well-wishes, urging Kyle to take the time he needs to recover.

This isn't the first time Kyle has faced a serious health scare. In recent years, he's spoken openly about struggling with high blood pressure and other health issues. His hectic schedule and high-stress lifestyle have undoubtedly played a role, but this latest diagnosis has made him take stock of what truly matters.

Medical experts say early detection of aneurysms can make all the difference, and Kyle's decision to seek medical attention after experiencing headaches could have saved his life. Aneurysms often go unnoticed until they rupture, making regular health check-ups crucial.

As Kyle prepares for surgery, his team at KIIS FM is rallying around him, ensuring that his time away is as smooth as possible. Jackie O has assured listeners that the show will continue, though she admitted it won't be the same without him.
