The mother of Kyhesha-Lee Joughin, whose father is currently being sentenced for her manslaughter, has spoken for the first time of the horrific details of the case.

Danielle Joughin has heard how her daughter – who she hadn’t seen for about six months before she died – allegedly suffered horrific sexual and physical abuse at the hands of Matthew Lee Williamson during the court hearing.

“It’s hard to comprehend really,” Joughin told the Courier Mail yesterday.

“No one helped her. It’s disgusting.”

Joughin also said she and her ex-partner Matthew never had a formal custody agreement in place, and he refused to return Kyhesha after she dropped her off for a visit.

Ms Joughin’s comments come as the case was adjourned until March 16 so Williamson could be tested for a “psychological abnormality”.

His defence barrister Michael Copley requested the report into whether a “psychological abnormality” had contributed to the way he acted towards Kyhesha and her death.

The court heard yesterday that Williamson’s first reaction upon discovering his daughter’s lifeless body was to tell his roommate to remove a bong from their house before he called triple zero.

The diaries of an eight-year-old girl who was “tortured to death” have been revealed at the trial of her grandmother, who is charged with her murder, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Gizzell ‘Gizzy’ Ford wrote about her love of school before her entries took a darker note, hinting at the horrific abuse she was suffering at the hands of her father and paternal grandmother in Chicago.

“I know if I be good and do everything I’m told I won’t have to do punishments,” Gizzy wrote in one of her entires.

Gizzy’s paternal grandmother, 55-year-old Helen Ford, is currently on trial for her murder. In July 2013, Gizzy’s body was found on the floor of her father’s room.

Prosecutors say the eight-year-old had been “tortured to death” and “beaten literally from head to toe” by her family members.

The wounds to Gizzy’s face were so severe that Officer Nancy DeCook, a Chicago police forensic investigator with 30 years experience, broke down as she described them in court.

“I hate this life because now I’m in super big trouble,” Gizzy wrote in her diary just two days before her death.

Cook County prosecutors also played videos showing Ford and Gizzy’s father berating the girl as she was forced to stand with a sock or rag stuffed in her mouth.

According to testimony, Gizzy was at times tied to her father’s bed for days and denied food and water.

Gizzy’s father died in jail while awaiting his trial. Ford’s trial is expected to end this week.

3. The man who has killed in a Barangaroo workplace accident was a young father.

A man who was crushed to death at a worksite at Barangaroo has been named as 32-year-old Timothy MacPherson, 7 News reports.

He was killed when a metal beam toppled onto him on a barge on Wednesday afternoon. A second man only narrowly avoided being hit.

MacPherson leaves behind his wife, who is currently pregnant with their second baby, and their 14-month-old son Jack.

“It’s heart-wrenching yeah, it’s just, you come to work to go home,” fellow worker Scott Davis said of the tragic incident.

Prince Minister Malcolm Turnbull has offered his condolences to the man’s family, but denied government changes were to blame for the accident.

“Every industrial accident is a tragedy and our condolences go, our sympathies go to the family,” he said.

The worksite remains closed as investigations into the incident continue.

A New Zealand wedding has been hailed as the ‘most casual’ ceremony in the world, and video of the event has gone viral around the world, the NZ Herald reports.

The video of the ceremony between Ange and Cody, two members of the Black Power gang, has been viewed over 1.5 million times on Facebook, and shows them sitting on chairs with crate bottles in hand as the celebrant reads their vows.

Ange wore a striped dress and thongs and Cody donned his best T-shirt and sneakers for the occasion.

Instead of sticking to tradition, the groom responded “yoza” and the bride simply raised a fist in answer to each of the celebrant’s questions.

The celebrant, Gaye Blake-Gough, said she was “happy and proud” to have been a part of the unique wedding.

“They’re a very lovely couple and very much in love,” she told the NZ Herald.

“I can say, I was very pleased and proud to be chosen to be their celebrant.”

5. Brother of alleged Bourke Street killer sentenced to two months in jail.

The brother of accused Bourke Street killer Dimitrious “Jimmy” Gargasoulas has been handed a two month jail sentence, The Age reports.

26-year-old Angelo Gargasoulas pleaded guilty to 13 charges at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday, including one for recklessly injuring his mother and intentionally injuring his partner.

The court heard that Angelo was coming down from the effects of drugs when he attacked his mother with a thermos after she took too long to make him a toasted sandwich on July 8 last year.

His mother suffered a bruised eye, a cut to her lip and other injuries in the attack.

Gargasoulas was allegedly stabbed by his brother – who has been charged with five counts of murder after the Bourke Street attack – in the early hours of the January 20.

Angelo faces two months behind bars. He will also be subject to another 18-month order after he is realised from prison, which includes 100 hours of community work and involvement in a series of treatment programs for drugs, alcohol and mental health.

6. Man drowns at Sydney’s Bondi beach, while a woman is rushed to hospital.

A man, believed to be in his 60s, has died at Sydney’s iconic Bondi beach, 7 News reports.

Lifeguards rushed to help the man, and performed CPR on him on the sad, but he could not be revived.

A woman – aged in her 50s – was also pulled from the water and rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical condition.

It is believed the pair both suffered cardiac arrests while in the water.

Police are investigating the incident and are expected to prepare a report for the coroner.
