Kristin was in bed with her son. She woke up to a man crawling along her floor.

In 2020, Kristin Cavallari was on a relaxing vacation with her family. Along with her now-ex-husband, Jay Cutler, and their two children, Camden and Jaxon, she'd been staying in The Bahamas for a month amid the global pandemic restrictions. 

One night during the last week of their trip, Cavallari was sleeping in bed with her son when something truly terrifying happened. 

"My kids still do not know [this] to this day," Cavallari shared during a recent episode of her Let's Be Honest with Kristin Cavallari podcast.

"Cam and I were sleeping," she recalled. "And I woke up to a man crawling on my bedroom floor."

Clearly in shock from waking up so abruptly to find a strange man in her room, Cavallari said she "didn't yell, I didn't scream" and somehow managed to remain calm for the sake of her son who was lying beside her.

"You think in those moments that that's what you'd do, but your instincts just kick in," she revealed. 

Then she confronted the intruder directly. 

"And I go, 'What the f*** are you doing?' And this man stands up, runs out the door," she said. "He had a ski mask on, full black arms, black pants, the full thing. And I went 'oh, f***.'"

As soon as the intruder left, Cavallari rushed to wake Cutler, and that was when the reality of the situation finally sank in. 

"I started shaking, and I was able to process then what just happened. But until that point, I was not scared. I was really calm. You just are running off of instinct." 

The ex-reality star later found out that it was a HVAC repair man who had broken into their holiday home.

While on the trip, Cavallari had laid out jewellery from her Uncommon James brand in her closet when the house's HVAC unit broke. That's when they called in workers for repairs.

"Long story short, he took all of the cash that we had in a backpack. We ended up getting it back. We found out who it was. It was the HVAC guy," she shared. 

The Hills alum said that while it was "one of the scariest things" she's ever been through in her life, she has decided not to tell her children about the incident, worried that it might have a lasting emotional impact on them. 

"I will not tell them, probably, until they're adults," she said. "Because I just think some things kids do not need to know. And scary stuff like that, I will take that one," she said.
