If anyone can rock a bleached blonde shaved head... It's definitely Kristen Stewart.

Cutting your hair short is one thing. There’s the freedom. The lightness. The renewed-confidence that comes with doing something a little edgy, not-quite-conventional.

But there’s cutting your hair short, and then there’s shaving your head entirely.

American actress Kristen Stewart, 26, has gone with the latter.

On Wednesday, the Twilight star debuted her shaved, bleached blonde, lack-of-locks at the Los Angeles premiere of her new movie Personal Shopper.

The result will make you go “ahh”.

The new look might not be entirely her own making. There are reports her shaved head is in preparation for her upcoming role in the deep-sea thriller Underwater, in which she's cast to play a researcher in a crisis.

However, in a recent interview with The London Sunday Times, Stewart spoke about subtlety (or her lack of it) as well as the way she prefers to confront a challenge. The same attitude might easily be applied to her hair...

"I want to push myself," she said. "In my life, when I’m emotional about something, I’m an extreme person. Subtlety is not my go-to. I just don’t want to fake anything, but the best opportunities for me are whenever I feel a little bit scared."

(Shaving off an entire head of hair is certainly reason enough to feel "a little bit scared".)

During the same interview, Stewart also spoke about Twilight: "Every step turns you into the person you are, and yeah, [Twilight] shaped me enormously. Not just those movies, but the subsequent effect."

Her very public relationship with co-star Robert Pattinson: "When I was dating Rob, the public were the enemy — and that is no way to live."

And her coming out as bisexual last year: "I suddenly realised [my private life] affects a greater number of people than just me. It was an opportunity to surrender a bit of what was mine, to make even one other person feel good about themselves... It just seemed important, and topical."

One thing is undeniable: If anyone can rock a bleached blonde shaved head... It's definitely Kristen Stewart.
