"Kristen Bell, I'm on your side on this one."

All I can say is “Hallejula, thank you!! Finally some sense!”

Today, Kristen Bell said something that made me forgive her for being part of Frozen (which I’ve been forced to watch 800 million times).

Following the outbreak of measles in the United States, Kristen took the opportunity to promote her views on vaccinations.

“When Lincoln was born [in March 2013], the whooping cough epidemic was growing, and before she was 2 months old, we simply said [to friends], ‘You have to get a whooping cough vaccination if you are going to hold our baby.’”

With new baby Delta, who was born in December last year, Kristen says the same rules apply.

In a statement which sums up exactly how I feel on the matter, Kristen says, “It’s a very simple logic. I believe in trusting doctors, not know it all’s”.

Kristen, you marvellous woman, you. Take a bow.

Like so many people with half a brain, I'm overjoyed that celebrities like Kristen Bell, Jennifer Lopez and Sarah Michelle Geller are using their platform to promote the reality of vaccinations rather than allow the internet to be over run with lies and propaganda peddled by uneducated twits.

Recently, I was looking into preschools for my child. There are a few to choose from in our area and I had quite a criteria. One of which being that I needed to know I reduced contact with unvaccinated children for my child as much as I possibly could.

I knew of one child whose mother was an armchair internet anti-vax expert. All of her information came from online forums written by wellness warriors, health experts (with no proper qualifications) and fellow nut jobs and because she now considered herself to be better educated than medical professionals, she chose not to vaccinate her children.

I called each preschool in my area and asked them whether her child was currently enrolled at the centre. Finally, one did confirm that child's attendance. I made the decision to send my child elsewhere. I fully understand that there might be unvaccinated children at my child's current preschool but if I could limit contact with unvaxxed kids by at least one known case, that could only be a good thing.

At the time I had a young baby who wasn't able to be fully immunised. I didn't want the simple act of picking my child up to be a possible risk of infection.

To me, if you choose not to vaccinate your child for reasons other than medical, you're to blame. You're to blame for the babies dying, you're to blame for the parents spending endless hours at the side of a hospital bed.  You're to blame for parents grieving over children they had to bury. You are to blame. End of story.

I'd like to say thank you to celebrities like Kristen for finally speaking some common sense about vaccinations. We need to balance out the crazies like Jenny McCarthy who have used their platform to peddle misinformation and lies due to their own ignorance. Kristen, I'm with you. I'll trust the opinions and guidance of doctors over those of "know it all's" any day.
