Perhaps this is why, when an Alabama couple named their newborn son ‘Krimson Tyde’, it was met with a certain amount of surprise, backlash and ridicule.
Summer and Steven Steele, from the small town of Andalusia, Alabama, named their son after the University of Alabama’s football team, the Crimson Tide. The couple told Alabama Media Group that they are “big Alabama [football] fans.
Little Krimson Tyde Steele was born on December 17th, and his story quickly went viral after being posted on twitter. It may or may not be due to the fact that the Urban Dictionary defines a ‘Crimson Tide’ as the following:
A woman’s period. Often used in the phrase “riding the crimson tide” — which can mean “having one’s period” or “having sex with a woman who has her period.
“I’m shocked, I didn’t think people would make such a big deal about it,” mum Summer Steele told Alabama Media Group.
So perhaps the moral of the story is this: Google your desired babies’ name FIRST and also, be sure to say it out loud in its entirety. Tell a few close friends of your intentions. If it doesn’t sound “quite right”, perhaps rethink it.
